Anti-Outsourcing folks- Do you approve of such behavior?
US RJs abuse Indian girl, air tape on radio

Yet another instance of backlash against outsourcing to India has been reported. And this time its laced with hate, sexcism and racism.

American radio jockeys Star and Buc Wild — apparently big names in their field — in an attempt to be 'funny' broadcast an abusive call that was placed to an Indian call-centre worker.

The 'call' was aired in their morning show on Philadelphia's Power 99 FM radio.

In the tape that was played, the caller starts with placing an order for mail order beads, questions the executive if the call has been outsourced to India and then proceeds to abuse her.

'I made an Indian girl cry, you can do it too!'

Q: I'm curious as to what kind of responses you have been getting. Do you use curse words at them?

A: I made an Indian woman cry and promise to quit her job in 60 seconds. You can do it too!"

MUMBAI: This is only a random (and printable) selection from the thousands of messages in cyberspace calling for a campaign to harass Indian call centre operators, to put an end to the offshoring of jobs.

The same person goes on to describe some more of his experiences while calling these call centres, an activity to which he promises to devote "one hour every day".

I think this is sick shit. I'm from India and I have many friends working in call centers. Till Sept last year I was working in one too. I don't see how harrassing call center workers is going to help stop outsourcing. I think this is a moran driven enterprise, and would appeal to the same small minds that voted Bush in. You know, the kind of people who love to pick a fight with individual beneficiaries of fucked up CEO policies rather than take on the CEOs themselves. Real sick. Especially these Deejays.
If I'm right, a majority of DUers wouldn't go for something like this. Right?

And please....it is NOT just bush who is to blame for outsourcing! What is it with you DUers??!! You put all the blame for decades of neoliberalism onto Bush! Friggin Clinton and the 'crats are every bit as much to blame as the GOP.

Yes, obviously it is wrong to make fun of some 3rd worlder just trying to survive. We should focus in on our leaders and how they are selling out to the corporations, who are really our enemies, so what they are doing is treason!

12. Wrong - Bush Is In Office NOW - It Is His Problem NOW - Not Clinton's
Clinton is History - We have to deal with NOW - And NOW is BUSH!

Bush's policy is to do NOTHING - That makes it his problem!

13. What the fuck?
Verbally abusing someone just because they want to put some food on their kid's plate is a start?

2. This has NOTHING to do with DU at all...it's a RIGHT WINGER...
who did this. It's part of the right wing schtick to blame the Indians for outsourcing, when everyone knows it's the corporations who hire them.

So it's a little insulting to throw this in our faces. You should post this challenge over at Free Republic. Nobody here has ever attacked the poorer people of the world for accepting a job.

6. Didn't want to "throw" this at your faces
just wanted to know what you feel about this. when i read this in the papers this morning, my first thought was- "great. more antagonism for america", but my next thought was- "DU isn't gonna like this."
So I came and posted it. In a way, just to re-affirm my faith in a part of America that is sane and cool.

3. It's not the Indian workers who are the problem...
It's the American-headed multinationals with no long-term vision who are at fault. Of course we don't think this is a good idea.....These radio people are assholes.

4. How goddamned sad.
This is entertainment? I think not.

On the other hand, when the line forms to kick outsourcing CEOs in the balls, I'm fighting my way to the front of that puppy. I want to kick them while they are still fresh.

7. Hell, no! We wouldn't be harassing Indian workers.
They're not at fault for wanting to make a living.

Our US corporations are at fault for not wanting Americans to make a living.

And I loathe all 'crank calls' on the radio. I have never thought they were funny. And to deliberately set out to make someone cry? That's just hateful.

8. This is reprehensible...
...I live here in the good ol' USA and have done telephone support for the companies I've worked for. We're always told to 'let the customer vent'.

Nonetheless, we didn't have to let them get abusive.

I'd just hang up and spread the word around that 'so-and-so' was abusive.

I know that there are laws here in the US (don't know the details) that restrict the kind of abuse (profanity?) that can be used across phone lines - don't know if they apply internationally.

Of course, the easiest way to stop this is to hit the companies involved financially.

Simply stop using or buying their products. Or tell their salespeople/callers that you will not put up with this sort of tactic.

I really think we shouldn't offshore telephone support - I've had to call these sort of support lines and had real trouble understanding them - not a good thing when your database has crashed and your own customers are screaming at you.

I don't know the solution, but making people cry and quit their jobs ain't it.

To echo someone - Why can't we all just get along?

We're going to have to in the long run - why not start now?
