It has been my experience that you can never say something nice, or conciliatory, or kind too soon or too often. An immediate, general statement that this catastrophe saddens all of humanity, and that Stupidhead is meeting with his advisors to work out the best, most helpful and quickest response just isn't in the nature of anyone in the White House. They probably had to cast about for a couple of days before they found someone with the necessary empathy to conjure up even this weak response.
