Edwards had a plan

And all the media asking him questions about not getting the campaign off the ground, he stuck with it. Credos to him.

I am REALLY impressed with his positive campaign. As I can see, the only ones positive is Edwards and Clark.

Edwards is going to be very tough for us to beat after we get out of New Hampshire.

Kerry, like me, is a charter member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, and his credibility has finally been shown to be genuine in Iowa. For we old vets, I think that is great.

1. I remember watching him barely a week ago

He was being interviewed, I don't recall by whom, and he was asked why his campaign never took off though he was considered an early favorite. Some called him the savior of the party early on. I thought the question was a bit of a low blow, but it was honest. He just said, "well, I think we're doing great!" He went on to talk about the swell of support he was seeing in Iowa despite what the poll were saying. He said he expected to do well there. I just watched the interview thinking, "John, I love ya and I wish it were true, but I just don't see it happening."

That'll teach me, won't it??? LOL

Really, Edwards is a great guy! When people see him, they like him. It's that simple.

2. But Edwards positive message is clueless

Edwards made an impassioned speech about how he would create an America where no child is hungry or without food, and one where no one that works full time will live in poverty.

This is a great message and it sells well.

But there is no underlying rationale on how to accomplish it.

The biggest challenge that America faces today is the eroding of employment and investment that is being channeled overseas. American corporations are falling all over themselves to rush into unregulated markets with cheap labor and low regulation, they can't dislocate themselves from America fast enough. America is heading for economic collapse with the perfect storm of massive retirement by boomers, 15-20% permanent unemployed, and a massive wage restructuring as all the engineers, IT, and finance people scurry down the job ladder into retail and health care services, pressuring wages even lower.

Edwards call to raise wages so that no one works in poverty provides American companies with more incentive to leave. No legislation that tries to attack this problem by raising wages will succeed in the environment that exists today and the one that we are slipping into.

No candidate is addressing this issue, so I am not singling out Edwards for not having a coherent strategy to reverse this course. But his positive wishes for the country are just wishes.
