Is anyone else sick to death of the 'Dean anger' stories on TV?
I'm watching Imus right now, and each MSNBC person he has on goes on and on about how 'aggressive' Dean was last night. Then they show this video of Dean SMILLING and working the crowd. WHAT is the deal?
I have yet to see any one of them get angry. I think its a rediculously obvious smear. I've heard it from ALL the repub talking heads. Scarbourough, Hannity, Rush...and I see no anger.
Even the 'Daily Show' has made fun of the press and Dean's 'widely reported' anger.

"It's been 'widely reported'. Which makes it 'fact-esque'."

Am I just missing it?

1. See, this is because they want to prop Dean up.
They do this because they are AFRAID of Kerry and Clark and they want to make CERTAIN Dean wins the nomination!

This is because Bush does his best work against somebody who won't let him off the hook, and Bush is at his very best whenever he faces aggressive opposition!

See how well it's working? Don't fall for their trap!

3. of course
Dean sort of represents the pointed attacks at Bush, so they dub him "the angry one." Another reason they do that is to single him out, in order for him to stop making such pointed accusations. WHen he doesn't stop making pointed accusations, well, then that just confirms he's the "angry one" and the media then try to sideline him as a one-trick pony.

Personally, I feel Dean, Clark and Kucinich (and of course SHarpton) are all the angry ones. Indeed, anybody who's seen Clark's interview with Assman on Faux - will know that Dean doesn't have a monopoly on emotional reaction to Bush's bullshit.

Personally, I want somebody who's not afraid to get a little emotional about the mess Bush is making of this country, indeed how can one look at this mess and feel great about it. I want somebody who represents me, and how I feel about this country and what's been done to it by the plutocrats.

5. the other message these journos are sending us is
WE should be good boys and girls and not get so "irrationally" angry over the Bush policies. "They are GOOD policies. Now, clean up your plate and stop being a brat..."

22. Wow, that hits home. I think you're right
I'm still not convinced Dean's anger will transfer into the general elections, but your point is really well taken. I think Democrats are culturally more inclined to be well behaved. This is why Dean isn't gelling outside his hardcore support. We're looking for a grandfather type to come along and punish that bad bully who's taken over our treehouse. This is the stern tone that Kerry and Clark represent. Edwards is the BMOC who wants to take on the bully himself, this year's Wally Cleaver, or that dude from 90210. I think that's why he's catching on. Dean is the kid who buses in from the the other side of the tracks, but has that same quality, just a harsher edge, as Edwards. He's this year's Fonzie, or arguably a Bart Simpson/Peppermint Patty hybrid.

6. You obviously weren't DUing last night, were you?
Here are the remarks from DUers after Dean's arm-waving speech on CNN:

"DEAN FREAKING OUT ON CNN!!!"

I am beside myself right now.
Thats putting it mildly.
LOL... Dookus
he was shrieking the names of a bunch of states
Picture a psychotic truck driver headed full steam for a bridge abuttment
Very unattractive and manic display.
More like a man on the edge
Oh my God, he said Yeeha
That was strange. YeeeeHa?
The Yeeha seemed forced to me..
Maybe he will get the southern white male vote after all ;-)
Hey look, he can name all 50 states Bucky Jan-19-04 10:41 PM #5
I wonder if someone spiked his coke with crystal meth soleft
Does his wife double as a phychologist? The guy needs a tranquilizer.
Who's that scarey man on TV mommy?
Good god, he's like a drunk whirling dervish... Holy cow. Is this what Dean is really like?
sure am glad I'm not the only one who thinks he's acting looney...
I think his card table is folding fast
I'm a Dean Support too and I'm stunned
he's speaking in tounges!
He was acting really scary!
He was yelling all the states in this angry hoarse voice then yeeehaawed
And growling like a mad dog.. Man I hope they show that again...
Look, I love Dean's passion, but that was scary.
It was one of the most shocking things I've seen in a long time
MSNBC: Would you want a doctor like THIS in the ER?
Yep. Imagine you're an NH voter watching this display...
Several months ago, I predicted Dean would implode, he just did
He looked like Jimmy Swaggart.

7. I am very concerned about Howard Dean
I watched his "concession" rant in a living-room full of liberal Dupont Circle Dems. and that scary, World Wrestling Federation-style hoarseness in his voice scared even Dean Supporters. It was NOT a good image to leave America with. Drudge will be looping this very unflattering audio snip all day. The pundits will chew on it. Our little Caucus party was bolted upright as much by Dean's scary conduct then by the suprize winners. After a bad, bad week I am afraid Howard Dean made the worst television in the primaries, so far.

17. WAS I TOTALLY WRONG?? Until Seeing His Performance From Last Night...
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 09:23 AM by arwalden
... I had not yet formed an opinion on the "angry Dean", even though I had been reading the comments and reading the pundit analysis.

All this time, I had been dismissing the angry-Dean comments as being unfairly based on the fact that he sometimes photographs poorly... and sometimes his smile looks like a forced gnashing and gritting-of-the-teeth.

I had hoped that it was his linebacker "no-neck" broad-shoulder beefcake appearance that was making folks judge him unfairly.

Now I'm afraid that others may be more correct than they are wrong.

Dude, Drudge has a clip up already. Check it out. Dean made a WWF a-hole out of himself. There are more than a few Dean supporters (including this one) who were shocked.

13. Many of those are on target.
Seriously, middle america, regular voters, will see that and wonder if that kind of firebrand is someone they want in office ready to "go off" on a foreign prime minister or a reporter during a press conference etc.

Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 10:06 AM by rmpalmer
who were freaked out by the speech and upset with Dean and Trippi.

I'm a Dean supporter and I agree - though I'm also ticked at how the pundits and the Dems attacked him as well before this. They were determined to take him down and they did.

9. After that wired performance last night,

Dean will not be able to get away from the "angry man" stories.

I've criticized Dean's arrogance before, but not his anger. Anger is appropriate at times.

Last night's post-caucus speech was NOT an appropriate time for anger or whatever else was going on inside Dean. I wish someone had kept him offstage until he calmed down because he made himself and, by association, the party look bad.

Watch the tape again. See him run out on stage and nearly knock Tom Harkin flat when he high-fives him. See how red his face was at the very beginning.

Watch Gephardt's moving speech. He was giving up his campaign, most likely his last one, but he was controlled and dignified. Watch Kerry and Edwards, both are gracious and both move into stirring, passionate campaign speeches. But none of the others is manic like Dean. I don't use the term "manic" often because I know what real mania looks like and it's a very frightening condition. Dean was a bit frightening last night. It was unsettling.

12. Dean is toast
Dean's speech sucked.

Big time.

Gephardt gave a gracious concession speech.

Edwards spent his time talking about how it's unacceptable to have children in poverty.

Then Dean came on, barely mentions any issues, just lots of praising his volunteers and vowing to win lots of other states, including that of all of his opponents.

Kerry gave a great speech in which he said all the things he stands for and invited Americans to join him.

It was as though Dean forgot that he was on national television with millions of Americans tuning in for the first time, and instead treated it like some stump speech. Based on that dismal performance, I have to say Dean is no longer my #2 pick; I'll probably vote for Kerry if it comes down to Kerry vs. Dean, and maybe even Edwards.

15. And he never once said Thank You to the Iowa voters who attended caucuses
and voted for him.

He thanked his supporters from fifteen different states, he thanked the unions, he thanked Harkin, and he thanked his local organizer, but he never ONCE said "Thanks" to the voters of Iowa.

:(

20. I regret to inform that it is working
"That Howard Dean is a lunatic! I hate him almost as much as I hate Hillary!" These are the words my co-worker greeted me with this morning. The typical politically unaware, white suburban woman who is normally interested only in reality TV shows and stories about Laci Peterson is now programmed to believe Howard Dean is "evil."

24. They're repeating the message the Dean campaign is running on.
If you don't want them to talk about anger, then Dean shouldn't have screamed last night, and then shouldn't have sarcastically talk about having to be polite like it was somethihng against his nature to which convention bound him.
