Does anyone else get the feeling all Hell is about to break loose?
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 08:58 PM by KansDem
By this I mean that there are signs cropping up each day: election fraud involving organized, co-ordinated efforts to suppress and misrepresent the voters' intent; Social Security madness; 90,000 students denied Pell grants; Jan. 6th and Jan. 20th; allusions to Civil War II; etc., etc., etc. (and these were posts read just this afternoon)

And now a thread that implies Republicans may "go to the streets" in the case of the Washington governor's race...

So far, I feel like there's a festering boil of colossal proportions ready to break open, releasing its pus; like a volcano just before it erupts.

Liberals/Progressives and even Moderates feel an unease about BushCo that, day after day, just increases with no outlet. No way to release the pent-up frustration and anger. Add to that the increasing militancy of the Neo-con Fascists GOP... Sides are being taken...lines drawn...the era of verbal assaults may be coming to an end to be replaced by "action..."

(How do you feel now about those neighbors who displayed "Bush/Cheney" signs this last election...? Be honest with yourself!)

Would a single incident (ie, Kent State); a single act of violence either intended or accidental, be all that it would take to set off a powder keg the likes never seen before in this country...?

I wonder...

Does anyone else have this feeling???

I do have a feeling something big is coming down the pike for 2005. I doubt it will be civil unrest though, but maybe some big scandal that will engulf the Bush administration (fingers crossed)

I'm not a true believer in prophecy or anything but nevertheless there was a prediction that even if Bush won, he would encounter serious trouble early in his term that I read about.

But as far as Republican vs Democrat riots, I highly doubt that scenario.

37. a few things that bother me about "the RAPTURE"
there have been posts/articles etc written that imply the bushies and fundies are trying to bring about the "Rapture"

first -- isn't God the one that is suppose to decided when/where/how the Rapture will occur and will do it when he is ready? If so, then all the bushies/fundies efforts to bring about the Rapture are actually working against GOD -- and how does this grant them favor to enter heaven?

secondly -- the Rapture spin includes "Judgement Day" where people are judged and sorted into heaven or hell. Why the rush to hasten that day? Could it be the bushies/fundies are anxious to get to heaven? If so, then what makes them think they will be judged "favorably" and ushered into heaven? Isn't this a sin of pride and wouldn't this sin disallow them from entering heaven?

third - there are a gazillion religions in the world all with their own doctrine and variations thereof -- how do we know which religion is the "true" one?

True, true...

At the time of the Iraq invasion, I wanted to put a bumper sticker on my car that read "My God can beat up Your God" but since I carry only liability on my car, I decided against it. Replacing windows and tires can be expensive...

6. honestly?
I'm surprised more hasn't happened already here. I really thought we'd have riots if Bush "won" and the Bush / Cheney signs made me feel friggen assaulted every time I saw one but that's because of Bush's assault on gay marriage.

So basically each Bush/Cheney sign & bumper sticker I see, I feel like I've been slapped in the face and I thought I was long past that way before this election.

It'll have to be something that stirs everyone, including the 30% of people who have no interest at all in politics.

As far as Washington is concerned, let 'em take to the streets. And if the cops in the state don't gas them, pelt them with rubber bullets, smack them down with bean-bags, beat them with batons, we should sue the police for unfair treatment. Basically, the Repukes need to be treated just like the WTO protesters were.

remember seeing the movie GHANDI, when India and Pakistan were partitioned? there was a big scene where huge lines of Muslims were walking towards pakistan, and nearby, huge lines of Hindus were walking towards India. The lines eyed each other and suddenly they began attacking each other in a huge riot.

15. Hi, KansDem!
:hi: Also a dem from Kansas. I am just a newbie here since just before the election. But I have felt a change coming for sometime. I just have the feeling all the time like I am living in a parallel universe since the election. I don't think it will come as one group against another, but will come as a nation against an evil dictator (our own). If not election fraud, then impeachment. I think the Kerick business has everyone disgusted. The continual screwups in Iraq, or the coming abolishment of all domestic spending, or the use of spy agencies for political purposes will just about do it, in my humble newbie opinion.

16. I wish something would break loose...
... but I think the situation is not so volatile. I feel the tension you describe, and know many people who sense it too, but aside from the activists I can't call it a powder keg. For me it is more like being in a vise grip or something... constant steady pressure.

How many scandals have we seen so far? And more turn up every single day. People keep thinking "this one will blow the lid off", but it never does....The incidents and events get just a little bit worse each time, but never enough to be really jarring to the masses. It is very much like the old story of the frogs in the pot.

22. I agree, outraged
I would have THOUGHT that by now all hell would have ALREADY broken loose. Yet complacent Americans (all political affiliations) just sit back and take it and take it and take it.

Where's the outrage??

If you ever listen to Malloy... that's what I'm talking about. He's outraged and disgusted and appalled over what's happening. He shows backbone. But why don't we see more of this? As long as we keep taking it, they'll keep dishing it out.

I can just hear them saying, "Hell... look how far we've pushed these chumps!! Let's keep doing it!! No one is saying anything!!"

Those people make me SICK

But I do think all hell will break loose at some point... but it's already so late in the game. There won't be much left when it finally does...

17. Consider this scenario...
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 09:17 PM by KansDem
Next month will be a tumultuous time: demonstrations on the 6th and the 20th. All across the country. The chances of right-wing crowds facing off with left-wing crowds are great. Perhaps the greatest opportunities yet for these two diametrically-opposed mindsets to meet. And at stake: Democracy itself. We want fair and open elections; they want the status quo and their Emperor.

The mobs meet: there are the expected shouts of political slogans and insults, even a few arguments...

Then, a shot rings out and someone falls mortally wounded. No one knows where the shot came from or who did it...

I'm afraid the reaction will be swift and great. What would happen is anybody's guess but I imagine it won't be pretty...

20. The few who displayed those signs
in this heavily Democratic area are the type of people who don't get to know their neighbors, who keep to themselves, who wouldn't do a damned thing for anybody else.

Nobody feels much of anything about them. It's like there's a blank space there, an unoccupied house.

The rest of us talk to each other, lend tools back and forth, help each other with yard work, and generally look out for each other.

Bush people limit themselves to a pretty small world.

Not a lot of * around here, but you should see the people on my block who still have two of their three (3!) ALAN FUCKING KEYES signs up. (Third floor apartment windows. They can't see out through them. Not that I guess they would want to, they might see two men holding hands or something).

Yes, I think something is coming. Something big and ugly, and while I want the tension to break, I do NOT want Civil War II. I have family and friends in red places, and I worry about them. I want there to be something still there to work with.

(Of course, I've thought something was coming for YEARS, so maybe that's just my natural state of anxiety. Definitely ramping way up, though.)

47. Yes.
Even though they have control of it all the right wing just keeps pressing. The concern now seems to boil down to the simple fact that we live here and do not think the same way they do.

We are not moving and if they keep coming, there will be a collision.

I hate to say it, but I am beginning to think that an economic collapse would be a good thing.

At least the discussion could get around to topics like food, clothing, and shelter. This nativity scene bit has gotten rather old.
