2 FEC complaints filed against Michael Moore by AZ lawyer
Dec 17, 2004

The University of Florida will defend itself against a federal elections complaint that alleges the university was wrong to pay filmmaker Michael Moore for his October visit.

David T. Hardy, an Arizona lawyer who co-authored "Michael Moore Is a Big Fat Stupid White Man," filed two complaints with the Federal Elections Commission about Moore's pre-election college tour, specifically naming UF among other colleges, according to a Chronicle of Higher Education report.

The university received a copy of the complaint to the FEC last month and will formally reply in January, said Pamela Bernard, vice president and general counsel at UF.

Hardy charged that universities like UF that paid the "Fahrenheit 9/11" director a fee essentially were making "corporate contributions" to Democratic Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign.

Federal law bans corporate donations to political campaigns.

UF paid Moore a $50,000 fee to speak at the O'Connell Center on Oct. 4.

Accent is a student run campus organization at UF in Gainesville. Over they years they have brought in many well known politicans and celebrities. In addition to bringing in Michael Moore this year, Accent had Governor Pataki at the same venue a few weeks earlier. All I can say to this asshole is 'bring 'em on'.

1. Oh, the "new" far right strategy.....
:eyes:

I hope what they keep asking for comes to bite them in the butt. What malicious hypocrites they are.

2. LOL . . . well, had Moore been running for an office he might have a case
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 04:10 PM by ET Awful
but since he wasn't campaigning FOR Kerry, but AGAINST Bush, I doubt they have a case. Especially when his record of criticising both parties is presented.

Ah well, I'm sure this isn't one of those frivolous lawsuits we keep hearing about eh? Did he hire a trial lawyer for the case?

14. Indeed she does . . .
right now though, she's sleeping on my computer monitor where it's REALLY warm (not only does the monitor put out heat, but it's right in the path of a heater vent too :)).

6. Yes! I was just thinking how Moore said he has a mailing list of 10M.

Just more material for his next movie, and a reason to come out swinging now.

What student group? Young Republicans? Or I mean Accent? They are the nursery of all sorts of unsavory characters, like KKKarl and lobbyists who rip off Indian tribes to fund the Republican party.

This is some of the most exciting news I have heard today!

For our Young Republican (Accented) Friends:

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid

And enjoy the Inauguration!

11. That's why this is so funny
I don't think this turkey lawyer realizes that he's stepped in his own shit yet.

On the other hand I do have to give Accent at UF credit, they have brought in a lot of good Dems and liberals to speak from Bill Clinton to Dennis Kucinich.

8. Bar * was only paid $30,000.
To speak at the opening of a hospital in poverty-stricken Tulare County.

My parents who lived around there were shaking their heads.

10. I don't think the Repugs have been clear about this,,,,,
they only hate Trial Lawyers & Activist Judges that stand for people's rights. Repug Lawyers & Judges are just fine with them.

sheesh,,,

and you guys are right,,,, Michael Moore will benefit from stuff like this :)
