Dumb question- who are the presidential hopefuls in Iraq?
As the administration keeps swearing elections will occur on Jan 30th I don't remember hearing anything about the "nominees". I have only heard of Ghazi al-Yawer, the interim president. Of course he was chosen by bushco and has strong ties to the admin. Is anyone contesting him?

2. Who wants to wager that Osama would win if he were on the ballot?
I'll take Osama against all challengers, and spot them 5 million votes. Oh wait, that is a stupid bet. The US Government won't allow anyone but a CIA operative to win. Oh wait. Osama is a CIA operative.

This is all so damned confusing!

3. Or Saddam
Of course both Osama and Saddam are vile men.

But what kind of "democracy" are we installing when our (their) hand picked guy is running alone in the first pres race?

(OK, that was sarcasm.)

7. They're not voting for president.
If I recall correctly, they'll be voting for a legislature, which will pick the president.

11. I thought they were voting for
a group (maybe legislature) that would write the new Iraqi constitution.

Maybe they are electing a new president too, I don't know.
