The largest minority group!
Please forgive me if this is not politically correct. I really do care and in no way want to offend anyone. Several years ago there was a report published saying that Spanish speaking American's would outnumber white American's within the next few years. By the time the next election comes around they will no longer be a minority. This includes Mexican American, Puerto Rican Americans, Cuban Americans, etc. I believe, if you look at Bush's recent appointee, Karl Rove has directed him to go after that vote for the next election. Why aren't the Dems making a concerted effort to appeal to these specific voter's in larger numbers? I realize we do try to appeal to them, but not as much as we should. The main religion practiced among these groups is Catholicism, at least I think that is the case. I know several, specifically, Mexican Americans that are Catholic and I also know that Catholics don't all follow their priest's and pope's every word. They tend to be free-thinkers despite what the pope commands of them. Any thoughts? Again, please forgive me if i wasn't politically correct in my wording.

1. Let's not pander to an ethnicity,
But do things that will actually help people, regardless of their color.

2. Why use the word "pandering" -- with its connotations of pimping?
Our candidates speak with the NAACP & other groups. Why should the Latino/Hispanic/etc. community be neglected?

3. Because that's what I think of the Republican efforts
to reach out to minorities with token getures. I don't want to emulate them.

5. I'm not talking about TOKEN gestures.
I really want this party to represent ALL aspects of American lives. Spanish American's are very family oriented. They have a great deal to add to this parties veiws!

4. Exactly!
If we hold meetings on a regular basis with the African American (NAACP and others) community, we should do so with ALL other minorities. There are many leader's in these communities as well, and I don't feel we give them a loud enough voice in our Party.

7. The US Census in 2000 showed that whites are 75% of the...
...population while those persons of Hispanic origin (includes white, black and mixed races) were 12.5% while black or African Americans were 12.3%. So the white race appears to be still the overwhelming majority at three out of every four people.

Funny how that still seems to mean something to many people. Every ten years rather than document superficial differences such as the color of people's skin or their ethnic origin, wouldn't our country be better served if the census would focus of attributes that are of meaningful value? For example, have a box to check off the state of each persons health in the household. Or, have a series of boxes that identify the good a person has accomplished through their lifetime. Or have boxes to show how much each person in the household has contributed to helping other people.

Anyway, the way it is done now can be found here:

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFFacts?_sse=on

Please show me where there is a direct relationship between skin color, ethnic origin, household size, renters vs home owners and the other numerous characteristics identified by the ten year census and the likelihood that U.S residents would become valued members of society. I'm open to new ideas!

10. Re:
I refuse to check the ethnicity box! I am very white. My only claim to minority is that I married a man of polish descent and one side of my family is Irish(if that makes me any kind of minority) I too wish race was not an issue, but let's face it, if we do not embrace our differences they can be used against us. In Colorado, we have large minority celebrations during Cinco De Mayo (sp?)My children as white as can be, have always been welcomed and educated at any and all minority events we have attended. Too few of us include our children in other ethnic celebrations. It's not pandering, it's educating.
