Called CBS about UCC ad.
Gave 'em a big old bellyful of mean.
I'm tired of acting polite on the phone. I was just brutal.
Brutal is how the winger organizations play it, so I just don't give a damn anymore.
It felt good.

Anybody else let loose on CBS?

2. CBS wouldn't run an ad for a church
because the church says it doesn't discriminate against gays.

Apparently not being a bigot is controversial now.

5. Here is the article about the UCC ad
I suppose that it is okay for the networks to air hate messages from Christian fundamentalists, but it is "too controversial" for them to broadcast an all-inclusive message from a liberal Christian Church.

Read it and weep:

Date Tue, 30 Nov 2004 18:32:49 -0500

United Church of Christ

For immediate release
Nov. 30, 2004

CBS, NBC refuse to air church's television advertisement

United Church of Christ ad highlighting Jesus' extravagant welcome called
'too controversial'

CLEVELAND -- The CBS and NBC television networks are refusing to run a
30-second television ad from the United Church of Christ because its
all-inclusive welcome has been deemed "too controversial."

The ad, part of the denomination's new, broad identity campaign set to
begin airing nationwide on Dec. 1, states that -- like Jesus -- the United
Church of Christ (UCC) seeks to welcome all people, regardless of ability,
age, race, economic circumstance or sexual orientation.

According to a written explanation from CBS, the United Church of Christ is
being denied network access because its ad implies acceptance of gay and
lesbian couples -- among other minority constituencies -- and is,
therefore, too "controversial."

"Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other
minority groups by other individuals and organizations," reads an
explanation from CBS, "and the fact the Executive Branch has recently
proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a
man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast on the UPN] networks."

Similarly, a rejection by NBC declared the spot "too controversial."

12. Too controversial? As opposed to what?
You can't watch TV for 10 minutes without seeing some ad from Viagra, Cialis and whatever drugs are on the market for dysfunctional reptiles, or whatever that condition is called.

What about all of those "reality" shows which are little more than a big T&A show and are anything but reality.

The fundies have really infiltrated the media with this move.

8. There are better ways to screw them for this:
Challenge the license of every CBS and NBC station in your area when it comes up for renewal. (This will cost them a lot of money in lawyers fees). And file a complaint with the FCC. It might get you no where, but it will cost them lots of money. The reason they're so scared of the right-wing is that the right-wing does challenge licenses and file complaints.

Pretty said for the public's airwaves.

unless one is Jewish to boot, in which case you will get a pretty pink Star of David.

11. Interesting that FOX, ABC and numerous cable channels are goin to run it
ABC doesn't surprise me, I watch a lot of their shows. Two of their soaps have dealt with lesbian and gay issues, and in a way that makes it clear that bigotry is wrong.

FOX kind of surprises me, except that a lot of their entertainment programmming (not FNC) pushes sexual buttons constantly. On top of that, they are the network of "The Simpsons" and of the former shows like "Melrose Place", "Married With Children" and night time soaps about teenagers having sex (the zip code show).

13. Back in the day, the stripper tent doubled as a church on Sundays
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 11:30 AM by htuttle
The carnival used to come into town, and they'd have strippers in the big tent Saturday night.

Then Sunday morning, most of the same audience showed up for a 'revival' in the same tent to beg forgiveness for having attended the strippers the night before.

Fox+FNC is like that. They are the carnival.
