Tonight on Olbermann
"*Also tonight: Carl Quintanilla's report on a controversial
law that is making its way through the Senate. It would make
it impossible for consumers to fast-forward through ads and
promos on DVDs, and make it illegal to develop and use technology that does so."

Just how much more government intrusion into our private lives
are we willing to put up with? Looks like while determining what
we can't watch, they are also trying to dictate what we must watch. I'm sick of it.

We need to find out who is backing this one and fight back.

11. Advertisers will pay to put a "logo" in the corner of the TiVo picture
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 01:40 PM by NYCGirl
that will show up when you FF through commercials, sort of like the thumbs-up TiVomatic symbol does now. It shouldn't be a big deal.

Edited to add: On the bright side, TiVo thinks it'll bring in enough revenue to be able to lower the monthly fee.

12. Read this piece from the NY Post, which talks about TiVo/Replay/DVRs
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 01:42 PM by BlueEyedSon
http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/34357.htm

Already DVR makers have caved in to the entertainment industry's dislike of giving home viewers the ability to skip commercials.

Last year, ReplayTv eliminated a button on its DVR that allowed users to eliminate commercials on their recordings altogether.

And yesterday, TiVo introduced a new function that would put a "billboard" featuring advertiser product information on a viewer's TV screen as they fast-forwarded through those advertiser's commercials.

22. Replay got bought out by another company, and the 30-second skip
on TiVo is a "backdoor" function (not officially sanctioned by TiVo)

14. I haven't seen this yet
That will really suck!!!
Half of the reason for getting Tivo was to avoid the ads.

2. Question about this...
If I buy a current model TIVO, can I avoid this stupid law?

If so, I'll probably buy six units...enough to last the rest of my life.
I wish we had something similar for radio. Commercials suck.

5. Dont give up!
I just wanted to say. The fraud of this election is being proved, by a wonderful thoughtful woman (Bev Harris) ‘Blackboxvoting.org”. We all need to thank this woman, for she is protecting our rights for a truthful election. I ask everyone to send her a thank you at her web site.

We need to keep up the fight to have our voices heard, send these media outlets an email demanding they report the news accurately. If we don’t keep up the fight they will have won.

We now see that the republicans in our government are immoral. By allowing an indicted person to keep their job in our government is beyond reasoning.

These people have stolen our election, and they need to be held accountable for the theft.
Send John Kerry a message let him know we have not given up the fight for our right to elect who we want for our president, so don’t give up on us. Send all democrats a message that we expect them to join John Kerry in the fight for our presidency, and we will be there to back them up. Let them know we have their backs, now help protect our backs. This needs to be done now.

Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 01:42 PM by maxsolomon
commercials before movies, product placement in movies, movie characters in ads before movies are released, 10 minutes of commercials in a 30 minute show.

there is no bottom. either turn it off or suck it up, consumer.

i, for one, welcome our new corporate overlords.

19. Yes, we will take anything they shove down our throats.
We've been conditioned to think that, regardless of what we really want, no one person is strong enough to make a change - so why fight it?

I can't wait until we're all walking billboards with product tattoos pasted on our bodies.

16. So, the Government orders us to watch ads?
This country is not governed by the people. It is governed by big corporations and Bush's rich buddies.

Thanks, Bush voters, for giving a shit about America. You are the new breed of slaves and big corporations are your slave masters.
