How many Bush nominees will Democrats oppose?
Do you think the Congressional Democrats will stand tall against all of Bush's new nominees? Or some? Or any?

2. Probably not any
Traditionally the winner of the election gets to choose his cabinet, and Senate approval is pretty much automatic. The real sparks fly when judicial nominations are sent to the Senate.

7. Usually
There are some things that are done because you don't want to set a precedent for it. If we hassle their nominees, they will hassle ours if we ever get in.

9. Doesn't it just take a simple majority to approve a cabinet appointment?
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 09:37 PM by le chien jaune
If so, what exactly are the Democrats supposed to do to stop Bush?

15. Precsiely
The only alternative is to do a filibuster, and shut the entire government down. Bad politics. Sorry guys, this is what happens when you lose. We have to keep our powder dry for the real fight - fascist Supreme Court nomimees. Then we better fight like hell or I'm joining Nader. We have to live with justices forever. We have to live with Condi for four years. We can't shut the government down for every appointee we don't like.

14. Hell, this batch of pink tutus won't even ask tough questions during
the hearings!

Senator Biden: Mr. Gonzales, can you tell us how God has shaped your legal thought processes about justice?

Gonzales: I'm glad you asked me that question, Senator Biden, and it's one of the toughest I've yet faced here in this illustrious committee chamber.
