WATERLOO, Iowa -- Moments after he delivered a passionate appeal for former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean at a mostly African-American church Sunday, U.S. Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. tried to remember the last time he campaigned for a presidential candidate here other than his father.
"You know what?" Jackson said after a long pause. "I spent so much time here in '84 and '88, this is my first time campaigning in Iowa for someone other than my dad."
But the South Side Democrat doesn't miss a beat when asked the difference between then and now.
"I like this guy," he said of Dean. "But I loved the other candidate.... But that's not to accrue to the detriment of Howard Dean. He's a decent candidate. He's just not my dad."
