4. LOL!
I will give you credit for the old 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try again' but you lose that credit for mistyping, it should be "I am spinning".

5. The new repub mantra: Stop the recount!...Kill the messenger!
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 02:14 PM by JohnnyRingo
Howard Troxler is a republican shill. He has repeatedly refered to democrats as "weenies".

This isn't the first time he has stood up for black box voting. His bias in writing has come at the cost of his credibility: (As do those that pass on his unfactual rants)

6. Dont believe it for a second
This guy is a known right winger... we are closing the gap in several swing states and Kerry may now be poised to take Ohio and Iowa. The repukes are pulling out all the stops as we draw near the finish line to try and demoralize us. Don't fall for it!

7. my response to him:
[email protected]

Mr. Troxler,

I have two words for those of you who think Bush Won:
Prove It!!

Without auditable/recountable voting in our Elections ~ how will we ever know?? It doesn't have to be fraud, to be wrong. I was a computer programmer for 20 years, a Business Systems Analyst for another 10 ~ programmers make mistakes, computer users make mistakes, hardware fails, power fails, procedures fail, there should never be computer systems that cannot be auditted. ARE we crazy?? Just how slick were those Marketing Guys from DieBold?? =)

My frustration is that the MainStream media is missing the big picture on this!!!

We have to get it right!!

8. Unfortunately....my response too...
My response. Unfortunate because I know lots of people on DU don't like reponses like this. However, I guess I'm a pragmatist - I'd really like to see a smoking gun and hardcore proof that fraud did occur. So far, I keep getting back to the same conclusion and it always ends up at 'incompetence', not fraud.

======== my response =========

I agree there doesn’t appear to be any evidence to support fraud or conspiracy. However, there IS plenty of evidence (nothing new, by the way) that there is INCOMPETENCE when it comes to the overall design and security of these voting systems.

Fellow computer scientists from Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie-Melon have done extensive analysis on various electronic systems and have concluded there are massive security flaws. I personally downloaded and altered votes in less than 90 seconds using Diebold’s central tabulation software (GEMS). Anyone who can point and click can change entire elections – it’s not hard. It’s not like we’re talking about some low-level hacker using complex programming languages and hacking techniques here. Anyone who can open up a Microsoft Access database can do this. How important is a vote? Shouldn’t we be protecting votes like we protect monetary transactions?

Every American should be concerned about this issue and it should transcend any partisanship. In my opinion, these systems should be “open source” and readily available for external review and scrutiny. I thoroughly understand the issue with Intellectual Property and proprietary software; however, when it comes to our democracy I believe the process that allows it to occur (voting) should be open to the citizenry, especially when there appears to be ties between the owners and board members of these software companies and one particular party. For example: http://www.diebold.com/whatsnews/inthenews/executive.htm

I agree, fraud is a stretch but sloppy design and security is a fact.

12. Your analysis is right on, my friend. It can't be called a
democracy if even one vote made in good faith goes uncounted.

I don't care if counting EVERY vote wouldn't make a difference. They took the (in Ohio, considerable) time to vote. They deserve to have theirs counted.

"Fraud" is extraordinarily difficult to prove, but technical glitches and deliberate secrecy and obfuscation surround the whole issue as well. THAT is what concerns me.

11. oh, there's plenty of evidence . . . it's the CONCLUSIVE evidence . . .
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 02:43 PM by OneBlueSky
that's in short supply . . . but that's only because IT'S LOCKED INSIDE THE REPUBLICAN VOTING MACHINES!!! . . . which, of course, are proprietary and can't be looked at by the American people or their representatives . . .

I wonder if "stinks to high heaven" constitutes evidence? . . .
