A national summit of grassroots Dem party members is needed.
Not just a collection of party officers who may be inclined to repeat the same old same old. If the DNC had enough money to preside over this debacle of an election, perhaps it can dig up a little money to convene a national meeting, all party members welcome, to do a little troubleshooting and to figure out exactly what the party is all about. Who knows--might even have a formulation of a reasonable action plan as an outcome as well.

This needs to include ALL interested parties--women, youth, ethnic/racial groups, GLBT--and perhaps the party officials should come prepared to listen rather than pontificate. What the heck--perhaps it would be a time to reformulate the by-laws to include the election of the DNC Chairperson be truly democratic and be done by or his/her selection approved by the rank and file members.

Just responded to Terry McAwful's email request for feedback, and detailed all the ways in which we were involved in helping Kerry get elected, and suggested that the DNC immediately embark on a grassroots tour of the country and talk to US instead of the big money donors and lobbyists.
As I said in my email, the people who were motivated to get involved in this election are what made Kerry gain more votes than any other candidate, ever (even if Bush was able to cheat his way into slighly more).
I said that we are a passionate, motivated and FURIOUS group of people who have much to say and that they need to hear.
What they should do is announce tours of the country and have members of the DNC fan out -- swing states, red states, blue states, etc. -- and encourage people to come out and vent.
They may be very surprised to hear what we have to say.
And really, what do they have to lose? Clearly, they don't get it. They keep being unsuccessful -- would another point of view kill them?
