It's been more of a "Should we throw them out?", "Should we make them admit that they failed us?" type of attitude.
I'm hoping that the people saying this are just Republican plants. Because otherwise, there's some really serious issues here.
I'm a Progressive. I end up voting Democrat because it's the only game in town that can beat Republicans. The basic idea that I try to live my life by is EQUALITY. For EVERYONE. Yes, even the knuckle-dragging, right wing rednecks that voted for Bush. I'm having difficult time right now remembering that I'm fighting for them too, because I'm pretty upset with them.
EVERYONE.. should have the right to love and happiness. I am one of the lucky ones. I met the most wonderful man, who shares so many of my thoughts and feelings. He and I can talk about anything and just having him here the last few days has made me feel so much less alone. BUT, on top of that, I also get the RIGHTS and PRIVLEDGES that others cannot get. Gay and Lesbian couples can find the same love and lack of loneliness, but they cannot have what I have. It's forbidden by a pack of bigots.
If my husband gets hurt, I am allowed to make medical decisions for him. That makes sense, since I spend more time with him and share more thoughts with him than his parents do right now. But they don't get that privledge. They have to hope that their partner's "real" next of kin are kind enough to allow them to make those decisions.
If my husband dies, I am entitled to Social Security Widow's benefits. Not if my husband was only my partner. If I die, my husband automatically gets all my stuff (the right of survivorship). Not for "those" people, though. Nope, if the house is in one partner's name, the other doesn't automatically get the house upon death. We get the right to file a joint tax return, to have health insurance for each other. Marriage (or even a Civil Union) confers so many rights upon a couple that gay and lesbian couples are BANNED from having. One of my friends has an entire BOX of legal papers designed to TRY to mimic marriage. I have ONE piece of paper.
This is terribly wrong, people. And, on top of the sheer wrongness of the situation, many of the gay people that I know GAVE UP on that issue for this election, in order to get Bush out. WE (yes, WE) asked them to give up their chance to have what all of us are allowed to have so that we could get Bush out. And now, we turn on them. That's the lowest form of betrayal I can think of. GEORGE BUSH made it about gay marriage. To appeal to the bigoted homophobes. To get them out to vote. And I REFUSE to become one of them.
