No Vacationing in a Red State
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:41 PM by Bushneedstogo
You don't want to put money into a Red States economy do you? We need to start supporting our own people. It is the "right" thing to do isn't it. I drank my Kool Aid this morning

Flame away!

1. I disagree
I say vacation in Red States and while you are there, volunteer some time with Democratic organizations to help with voter outreach and education programs.

2. Yes that is a controllable step
if you happen to live in a red state vacation to a blue

the only problem is your are supporting airlines and or gas companies as you need the means to get there but if your in blue stay home and play with the kids

3. I live in a red state
We need to realize that people in red states are our people, too. All of America is. We need to work on our message and reach out to them.

6. I wouldn't be able to visit my family if i didn't go to a red state
My 90 year old Great Aunt said that she didn't know anyone that voted for Bush and something must be going wrong with the voting system. I just found out that one of my second or third cousins works for Senator Byrd and mountain top drilling is not fiction it is fact.

4. My family lives in red states
better would be to support blue businesses while you're there! it's false to pretend that these states are wholly one way or the other

5. This actually worked in South Carolina some years ago
When the South Carolina state legislature refused to remove the Confederate battle flag as the state flag, the NAACP started a very effective nationwide boycott of South Carolina. Eventually the legislature caved, after the state lost some big convention contracts.

I live in a red state and I know a lot of Democrats who depend on tourism dollars to survive. In fact, people who run small b&bs and such-like are more likely to be Democrats. However, I think you have a good idea here.

Let's tweak it. Let's all be very careful not to spend our money supporting companies that support Republicans. It's not a red vs. blue state thing. It needs to be done strategically, at the local level.

Don't buy things from big box corporations if you can avoid it. Buy at local co-ops, not-for-profits, small business owned by Democrats, and second-hand stores.
