What states do you wish Kerry had more seriously contested?

My picks: Missouri (sooo winnable, but we're still trying over here, I'm part of GOTV), Virginia, and Louisiana. Yes, Louisiana, because it voted comfortably for Clinton and I have this suspicion that if Kerry and folk had really devoted some time and energy to La., it could be in play and could be a Dem pickup. Neither Kerry nor Gore contested La., which was clearly a mistake for Gore. I don't think Kerry will pay for these mistakes, b/c I think he'll win Ohio AND Florida and I think he stands a reasonable outside chance in both Missouri and Virginia. Still, it would have been nice.

But note that this is not a defeatist thread - we're gonna win people! I can't wait the next 24 hours!

2. Kerry did try competing in Louisiana

but he was always far behind. even the recent Dem victories have been very close races and those dems are from there and pretty conservative. so it's very unlikely Kerry would have had much of a chance there. but he did try. he has strong support from black voters in the state. but white voters including democrats and independents support bush over kerry by a huge amount.

6. Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii

Arkansas was much closer a few weeks back, Georgia because we registered almost half a million new voters and we have one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the US, Hawaii was taken for granted. I'm sure there are many others.

I really wish we would abandon the electoral college and go to one person one vote so each state must be addressed. The way it is know didn't work 4 years ago and may not again.

This is an issue that deserves consideration of a Constitutional amendment, not gay marriage!

We operate under a system that is arcane at best and was designed for a much smaller country. Third world countries have better systems to elect leaders!

Things are not solid at all here for Chimp.

Edwards could have spent one day and made three stops in Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville.

People here would have really loved him here and it would have really helped.

Ok, maybe I'm being a little selfish. I would have loved to go to one of those big rallies.

Seriously though, I'm a little worried. There are some trends in our state that I don't like including a strong pro-choice archbishop, a flood of upscale New Yorkers who bugged out of NYC after 9/11 all buying hideous starter castles on land that was once beautiful horse and vegetable farms. Those close polls may be wacked but there's a reality there.

I'm hopeful though. The middle class is getting squeezed here, for every person who support Bush because of 9/11 there are others who hate him for failing to protect their loved ones and allowing the Bin Laden to go free. We got plenty of reasons here to throw the bums out. More importantly, Democrats heer are energized. Yesterday I had to park my truck two blocks away from Dem headquarters in Long Branch because there were so many people there waiting to canvass--and that on a Monday.

I've got my Kerry signs and flag display on the front lawn. Got to get dressed and hit the polls now and then get to work on GOTV.

I would like to see a presidential candidate pledge to campaign at least one time in all 50 states. If you wrap up the nomination early like Kerry did you could make a lot of those trips in the late spring and early summer and then devote your time and resources to more competitive states in the fall.
