How I know we'll win...
I have a dinner club with five couples that meets once a month here in Houston. Four of the couples are Dems and one's conservative Republican. They all work at Baker & Botts (as in James Baker III, the law firm that represented Bush in the 2000 Florida recount). Two of the Democratic couples couldn't make it because they had decided on their own to fly from Houston to New Mexico to help monitor polling stations and get out the vote for Kerry. We were there, but I had already flown myself to Arizona to help the early voting drive.

So out of five couples, three of the four Democrats had travelled to swing states to knock on doors. We didn't discuss this, we all just went and did this on our own because we're THAT determiend. The lone Republicans voted for Bush, but admitted they held their noses while doing it

Who do you think is motivated this election?

1. How *I* know we'll win.
All the meaningful numbers are favorable to Kerry.

But your story was waaaaay more interesting. :)

2. Yup.
My sister lives with terrible pain and more than a little agoraphobia, but she and her husband are making calls at local Democratic headquarters (actually, he's a nerd so they have him at the computers).

She comes home and takes painkillers but she's volunteering.

3. My parent's, too...
I've never gotten involved in a campaign before. Nor have my parents, yet they're devoting every ounce of free time to registering voters and GOTV. I can't tell you the motivation there is out there to get rid of these guys. I see more Kerry signs and bumber stickers in Houston that Bush by FAR.
