Really...I cannot stand MSNBC anymore! Read this..
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 08:16 AM by truhavoc
And I quote:

"Throughout the battlegrounds, Kerry’s mostly paid-army of organizers were pitted against Bush’s largely volunteer-driven team to get supporters to the polls Tuesday."

I suppose they are referring to ACT, but are they even being paid anymore to GOTV? I don't know anyone that has been paid for GOTV, and I know there were republican groups that paid people to sign up voters just like ACT did. Just the spin in this article irritates the hell out of me.

In the same article as well:
"Democrats said their private surveys hinted at momentum for the Republican incumbent."

THIS ARTICLE IS ON THE MSN HOMEPAGE!!!

sorry, here is the link:

13. You have registered a LOT of new voters haven't you rosebud?
I recall being so gratified when I read your posts describing your voter registration and canvassing efforts.

Look at your work compared to the paid Republican canvassers who get a bounty for every Repub they register and who toss out all the Dem registrants. That article is a slap in the face to all of us who have been working so hard because we BELIEVE so strongly in our cause.

29. Yes, I registered and street canvassed everyday downtown on my lunchbreak
I decided to focus on increasing turn out among young African Americans. I'm not sure what they think about a middle-aged white woman glueing flyers and talking trash about the idiot boy, but a few have told me it's great what I am doing.

Yesterday I drove slowly around African American neighborhoods, my car palstered with Kerry signs and white shoe polish vote messages on my windows, blasting Mosh, giving away CDs and the GWB is a PAB flyer.

Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to download high resolution TIF or PDF files to print and distribute in the inner city (not the suburbs). Hand them out and or attach them to utility poles, bus stops, phone booths, etc. Guerilla marketers needed to create MAXIMUM BUZZ!

60 - 70 hours a week since Labor Day and I don't get a penny. What's wrong with this picture?

Same is true for the many other volunteers working with me. Why doesn't MSNBC talk about them???

5. I wasn't paid to GOTV
I took a bus trip to PA to canvass voters with ACT and nobobdy paid me. ACT paid for the bus, so we had no out of pocket expense to make the trip but I was and am a volunteer- today I am going to the Progressive Coalition to make phone calls to Florida. THey are full of it- I'm sending them a email.

I have been trying to tell my wife this for years, but she thinks they are better than FAUX, which is like saying Attila the Hun killed fewer people than did Hitler. BTW: She is a fanatical Kerry supporter.

18. Freep-speak is killing America.
We all know that it's the repugs that are more likely to get paid. Even for that both sides are almost entirely volunteer. The propoganda machine is running full steam.

8. That MSNBC article is total bullshit
I have been working on the Kerry campaign here in PA. There is ONE paid person in the entire county, with the exception of I believe TWO people who are being paid on election day only by their local Dempcratic chairperson to be poll watchers. We send our volunteers out to do canvassing and visibility events and they have been taunted by the Bush "volunteers" because the BC campaign is paying them $10 an hour, while our people get nothing.

Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 08:26 AM by wishlist
We have the biggest groundswell of grassroots support and volunteer efforts that I have ever seen in any election year. Look at the all the small donations from individual contributors being made plus all the people showing up at Democratic Headquarters everywhere to help in any way they can.

Also, people have been paying at Dem Headquarters to get their yard sign, stickers and buttons, whereas the Repubs are giving them away in more places, but you still see a lot more Kerry stuff where I am in N.C.

12. I think the Dem Party is leaving nothing to chance and is running paid
GOTV in key precincts around the country where they can't get middle class white people (the kind of people who usually volunteer) to walk in low turnout working class black and immigrant neighborhoods where all the Democratic unlikely votes are.

The Republicans don't have to pay people to do GOTV becuase they get to walk upper middle class white neighborhoods. Also, Republicans are so motivated to vote this year, they don't really need to get out their own vote.

This story is really about one of my biggest concerns about the Democratic Party: it's so hard to get the people motivated to participate whose interests the Democratic Party is doing the most to represent. It's because they don't have the time to pay attention and often don't appreciate what the government can do on their behalf. Democrats -- all of us -- could do a much better job explaining people what we stand for. It's so much more than hating Bush.

I'd been working with the MO Dem Party so am working unpaid and there are a whole lot of us volunteers doing just the same things that the republican volunteers are doing, only we're hones and they're basing their entire campaign on lies and disasterous policies which have hurt America.

26. Bush fliers
Yesterday we came home to find 20 Bush fliers on our door (all the same). My husband thought maybe they left so many because of our Kerry yard sign. I thought it was because they were being paid & just wanted to be done with it & didn't want to just throw them in the garbage.

I think it was definitely the Kerry sign. Problem was, I was out of town for the weekend and it rained, I had paper all over the lawn! Talk about pissing me off...I went out that night and registered 35 new voters.
