CNN's Carol Costello just reported that "NBC is reporting that the weapons
were gone by the time the troops got there"

This is hilarious, they are reporting NBC is reporting something that NBC is not reporting.
What they are doing is letting the White House SPIN a report from NBC that hardly got to the bottom of it.

6. yup, that was CNN
Letterman showed footage of a kid acting really goofy at a Bush "revival," and the next day Daryn Kagan (aka "I like to be under fat drug addicts") said that "they were getting word that the boy was digitally inserted." Wonder from where? After Letterman raised a big stink on his show ("just remember when you're voting, that Bush called me a liar!"), CNN basically admitted that they didn't do any checking and just said what they were told to say.

4. This is the Bushies favorite way to lie
.... simply spin things enough to create confusion, feed it to drudge or some other right wing rag, which in turn is picked up by corp media like CNN. If even a few media outlets bite the story becomes a "controversy" and with "differing accounts" and it's therefore neutralized. This is by far the Bushies most favored and frequent use of lies (that never actually get called lies).

The sad thing is that it doesn't even require a vast conspiracy - just a small one.

One week, folks, and he is gone. May we never have such pathologically lying scum in the WH again.

20. This is from Krugman's column today and refutes Pentagon claim...
Informed sources quoted by the influential Nelson Report say explosives from Al Qaqaa are the "primary source" of the roadside and car bombs that have killed and wounded so many U.S. soldiers. And thanks to the huge amount looted - "in a highly organized operation using heavy equipment" - the insurgents and whoever else have access to the Qaqaa material have enough explosives for tens of thousands of future bombs.

Am emaling this to Coverup News Network.

8. Did I hear Peggy say that this means Bush was right? WMD were there.
Now that is one good spin. But also Clinton is to blame for every thing and Bush is to blame for nothing.Atomic information went to China under Clinton and Bush misplaces about 400 tons of weapons. How can this be?

13. They're NOT 'WMD' and if she wants to call them 'WMD' that's fine...but
these explosives WERE NOT PROHIBITED IN IRAQ. They were SECURED and SEALED adn MONITORED by the UN-IAEA and have been since 1991.

bush's Iraq Survey Group weapons inspectors didn't even look at the explosives because they WERE NOT 'WMD' and they WERE NOT prohibited,a nd they WERE WELL-KNOWN and secured and monitored and sealed by the UN.

It's not good spin...it's INCREDIBLE STUPIDITY on her part. If she actually KNOWS the FACTS and is spinning on purpose, thinking Americans will fall for this shit, she has the LOWEST OPINION of Americans' intelligence I've seen in awhile.

Even the freepers aren't that stupid.

15. My note:
You guys better get it together and start reporting facts, not wishful thinking. Your misrepresentations of the truth in the weapons story are almost eclipsed by the manner in which you are sneering at the Kerry Campaign. Sneering, I might remind you from your debating days (if you did participate in that intellectual exercise), is not an argument.

Either you are a news organization or you're a commentariat. Please statae which prior to broadcast, and in case your journalists don't know the difference, you had better send them back to school.

It's a betrayal of intellectualism and journalistic theory and ethics. History will write a very poor record of the tenure of cable news at the turn of the century, rivalling that for which the Hearst papers were notorious.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

23. My message to CNN
Dear Mr. Jordan,

Though, like millions of former CNN-watchers, I have almost given up on CNN as a news network, I am writing in the hope that some trace of integrity might have survived at your once-great organization.

All morning, your anchors have been "reporting" an NBC "report" that the 380 tons of explosives recently reported stolen from the Al Qaqaa facility in Iraq were "already gone when US soldiers got there". There are at least three problems with the story:

1. MSNBC itself is not reporting the story on its news or on its website. The only outlet reporting it is the Drudge Report. I did not realize that CNN had become a conduit for Bush campaign spin sourced through Matt Drudge. The fact that you are keener to report this than the purported source (NBC) shows how far your operation has come from being a real news network.

2. As the AP story all over the press today says, a Pentagon official has already acknowledged that the explosives were "intact" when the US military first arrived at the site. This directly contradicts the spin put out by Di Rita and other Pentagon apologists on the record.

3. Even if the explosives were gone when the US military arrived on April 10, 2003, we know that they were there until March 10 when the IAEA inspected them. If they were stolen between then and April 10, it was because the Bush Administration kicked IAEA out of Iraq in March in preparation for the war, so that hardly lets the Administration off the hook. Also, if the military did not find the explosives on April 10, that means they (and the Pentagon) have known about the missing explosives for 18 months and did not tell anyone. That is even worse than losing them now. All this was explained by David Albright on your own air last night, but your anchors this morning keep peddling the Bush-friendly angle (which tracks all right-wing talk-show talking points this morning) without pointing out the problems with it.

Since you're getting your news from websites anyway, you might want to check out Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo (www.talkingpointsmemo.com) for a run down on the logical problems of the current White House spin. But I don't really expect you to do any of this. You once famously prostituted yourself to Saddam Hussain for a bit of access, so I am not surprised that you are willing to do the same for George Bush. I do look forward to the time when you will need to turn your favors towards President Kerry.
