I'm not a big Eminem fan, but geez, that's powerful.

On Edit: Man I love the ending, do what's right and vote him out.

Dark. Angry. Relentless. and, most of all, ready to act on it.

and is astute enough to know that the people who are his most loyal supporters are also the people who are most likely to get drafted.

Does anyone know the name of this tune? I'd like to get the lyrics.

God bless him for fighting the REAL enemy, finally.

Now he's getting up to prophet status.

"No more blood for oil. We got our own battle to fight on our own soil."

Now that's what I call art!

edit: for those not in the know, like me, it's called "Mosh".

152. Today Salon's Michelle Goldberg has article on Eminem's "Mosh"
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 11:00 AM by flpoljunkie

Download "Mosh," the most powerful broadside against the administration since "Fahrenheit 9/11."

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Michelle Goldberg

Oct. 26, 2004  |

<>The beautifully animated video, which is directed by Ian Inaba, opens with a classroom. At the front is a man in a blue suit, his face buried in an upside down children's book that says "My Pet," with a picture of a bush. Just as the man is revealed to be Eminem, the scene changes, and we see the singer taping up newspaper stories to a wall -- "Sick Wounded Troops Held in Squalor," says one. "Civil Liberties at Stake," says another. "Bush Knew," says a third.

In five minutes, Eminem manages a furious indictment of the administration that will likely resonate among many troops in Iraq as well as disaffected kids here at home. In one scene, a smiling soldier returns home from Baghdad, only to be handed a notice announcing that he has to go back. As Eminem sings, "fuck Bush," the soldier mouths the words.

Then we see a woman walking home in the rain, carrying groceries and an envelope. Inside is an eviction notice. As she reads it, we hear Eminem saying, "Maybe this is God just saying we're responsible for this monster, this coward that we have empowered." The woman looks at her TV, where Bush is speaking over a banner that says "Tax Cuts." She looks at her terrified children, then back at the screen, which says, "Breaking News…Terror Alert."

It all ends amazingly earnestly, with Eminem leading a black-clad army to the voting booth. Once again, Bush proves he really does have wonder working powers -- by behaving even more callously and irresponsibly than the most outrageous rapper, he's turned music's foremost enfant terrible into a role model of civic engagement.

Now we just have to see if MTV has the guts to air it.

I'm wary of overstating this but,
That might be one of the greatest protest songs I've ever heard. Certainly the best protest song in that genre.

Watching that evokes emotion. In a major way.

Eminem is going to deliver Kerry the youth vote. Damn that was good. I really am speechless. And this coming from someone who really doesn't like this kind of music. I'm now convinced that he really DOES have some talent. WOW!!!!!!

But my favorite protest song is still Fuck a War by the Geto Boys from the previous Gulf War.

Here are the lyrics:

Obviously, the eminem track will be getting a bit more radio play...

136. He has the troops in mind
which is surprising to me, but on reflection should not be; he has to know that many of his fans are the poorer who make up many, if not most of the troops in Iraq.

On the topic of hip-hop protest songs, "Fuck the Police" is probably the penultimate song of that genre. To the point, with serious attitude, and expressing what just about every young, black man (who were NWA's main audience at first) wanted to say, but couldn't.

3. Dethrone ...
"Dethrone this weapon of mass destruction ..."

I am in awe. I have been wondering where the rage is in our music, where is the call to arms. I see it now and again, but this was simple and plain and clear.

I once could not tolerate this guy. Then he grew on me. I think I just became a fan.

64. Greenday's albumn is AWESOME!!!
This is a song called Holiday

"Holiday"

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around the score of men (Hey!)
A gag, A plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

"The representative from California has the floor"

Sieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass man
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

This is our lives on holiday

it doesn't even really compare to their earlier work. it seems much more focused, mature, and deliberate. it has a certain feeling throughout the whole album. really a great peice of work.

it is kind of coincidental that green day was one of the few show stoppers at that woodstock '99 and now they have released an album that really tells a tale of the times.

96. I really like Rock against Bush
I bought it thinking I probably would end up listening to only a few songs from it, but it has mostly great songs.

And the eminem video is incredible, I hope it has a big effect, and makes the younger generation feel that this country should be thinking of THEIR future, not catering to a bunch of greedy, old guys who are using war for a substitute Viagra pill.

I remember reading a post by Mopaul, saying Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner had a big effect on him, making him realize this country was for him too, not just the people that claimed they were the "true" Americans. I hope this song does the same for the modern-day generation.

159. lyrics to "American Idiot"
Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

7. Mosh Lyrics
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible・
It feels so good to be back..]

Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel, reenergize, and rewind
I give sight to the blind, mind sight through the mind
I ostracize my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I知 gonna whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi task
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft slash
Entrepreneur who has held long too few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let's all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors, come on

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we're responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength, and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme, just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply it by six
Teen million people are equal of this high pitch
Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it's all lies, the stars and stripes
They've been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you'll know why, because I told you to fight

So come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 11:44 AM by jdjkkse
I am not and have never been a fan of Eminem, being a queer feminist, BUT if you put any repetitive rhyme scheme (a/b/a/b/a/b/etcetczzzzzzzzzzz) masculine rhymed Dylan song

"the answer my FRIEND/is blowin in the WIND"

jiminy cricket, i've given him too much credit his scheme is a/a/a/a/

"to be on your OWN/ a complete UNKNOWN/ like a rolling STONE"

just like Sting, another overrated musical Christ figure...

if you take any Emimen lyric you will find he uses tons of feminine rhyme, and well as internal rhyme, and his rhyme schemes are much more complex... this kind of poetry is the most difficult to do, and I believe these kind of poets are born, not made. Face it God TOUCHED him, and I'm glad he's using his talent to a good end now, that he cares enough to put himself in the skillet for the lives of his fans.

Dylan's pump lies broke cause his candle's in a shambles.
In times when the grime of wartime slimes lifetimes, the missing rhymes are crimes.

People!
Get ready!
It feels so good to be back!
Ladies and gentleman
Introducing the new me
Improved youth
No fool

Never been too type to bend or budge
The wrong button to push, no friend, no bush
I'm the centerpiece, you're a mortice, i'm a pitbull off his leash
All this peace-talkin cease
All these people i had to leave in limbo
I'm back now and i've come to release this info
I'll be brief and let me just keep shit simple
Cannabitch, don't want no beef with slim, NOO!
Not even on my radar
So won't you please jump off my dick, lay off and stay off
and follow me cos i put these crayons to chaos
from seance to seance.

So come on down
So get on down
Doh si doh now
Dont have a good plan
Dont be scerrrd (scared), cuz therrr (there) ain't nuttin' to werrr (worry) 'bout
Let your hair down
Square dance

Let your hair down to the track, yeh, keep goin back (BOO!)
The boogie-monster of rap, yeh, the man's back!
With a plan to ambush this bush administration
Moosh the senate's face in, push this generation
O' kids to stand and fight for the right to say somethin'
You might not like, this white hot light that im under
No wonder i look so sunburnt,
Oh no, i won't leave no stone unturned
Oh no, i won't leave one goin' nowhere
Doh-si-soh oh! yo! ho! hello there!
Oh yeh! don't think i won't go there
Go to beiruit and do a show there
Yeh you laugh til your motherfuckin' ass gets drafted
When you're in bed here thinkin' the draft cant happen
'Til you fuck around gettin anthrax napkin
Inside a package wrapped in sarandrap wrappin'
Open the plastic, and then you stand back gaspin'
Fuckin' assassins hijackin' anthrax crashin'
All this terror, america demands action
Next thing you know, you've got uncle sam's ass askin'
To join our army, or what you do for their navy
You just a baby gettin' recruited at 18
You're on a plane now eatin' that food and that baked beans
I'm 28, they gon take you 'fore they take me
Crazy insane or insane crazy?
When i say hussein, you say shady!
My views ain't changed to lean humane way for
Rain 2 days late, the date's today
Hey team!

Nothing moves me more than a groove that suits me
Nothing suits me more than a groove that boosts me
Nothing boosts me more or suites me beautifully

Somebody you would give a lung to be
Hungry like a fucking younger me
Fuck the fee, I can get you jumped for free
Yeah, buddy, laugh it's funny, I have the money
To have you killed by somebody who has nothing

I always liked that song. It came out in 2002. Em was ahead of his time. Did he do a video for Square Dance?

15. Really, really powerful.....
Great video, catchy tune.

If I wasn't such a whitebread representative of the bourgeosie I would wear a black hoodie on November 2, too...

We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors..come on.

They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

Eminem's Video For Anti-Bush Song 'Mosh' Hits The Internet
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1493010/10252004/eminem.jhtml

Michael Moore, the "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker who tried his hand at directing music videos with Rage Against the Machine, would certainly approve of Eminem's new clip, "Mosh," which has just hit the Internet.

A scathing indictment of President Bush and the war in Iraq (see "Em Changes Targets From Jacko To Bush On New Track 'Mosh' "), the animated video begins with the jarring image of a commercial airliner flying over a school and then exploding offscreen. The point of view then zooms into the school, where Eminem is reading a children's book to a class in a scene reminiscent of the minutes following the 9-11 attacks, when Bush was at a Florida elementary school reading to second graders. Eminem is holding his book upside down.

From there, "Mosh" moves to Eminem's apartment, where the walls are covered with articles critical of the Bush administration and its policies. Filled with anger, he puts on gloves and dons a hooded jacket. Clips of Em rapping the track are then interspersed with scenes of domestic problems facing the country, such as racial profiling (an animated Lloyd Banks is harassed by police) and poverty (an inner-city family receives an eviction notice as their TV set shows Bush promising tax cuts for the wealthy).

ON EDIT: There is a "Send us your comment" button at the end of the story. I wrote and asked them to play the video on TV.

From just a musical standpoint I think this might be his best work.
Great, powerful rhymes and an ominous, revolutionary beat throughout.

I'm not much of a fan of rap at all, but this song works for me.

Seriously, this style of music rarely speaks to me, even when I agree with the message.

But that song, that beat, that hook ... I honestly got chills, and I rarely get chills from songs nowadays. And this was before I really listened to the words.

191. you know, I am 37, too, but I am not too old for this.
I recently started listening to hip hop on the grounds that it is the most popular music on the planet, and I wanted to know why. Once my ears got used to the new sounds, I understood. It is really compelling beats and rhymes and the stuff they rap about is all aspects of life. Most rock/pop seems really simplistic and boring in comparison, now.

IMO most rock and pop is simplistic and boring, and so is most rap.

This piece, I find impressive. An exception to the rule.

Much more important than your opinion about popular music or mine, is the fact that this particular piece is moving, powerful and rendered by a WILDLY popular personality in the youth culture. It has ENORMOUS potential for stiring up passions and getting people to the polls who may not have made the effort it can take for someone with two jobs and no car or have other difficult circumstances in their life.

68. I hear you ...

Rap, modern rap anyway, just irritates me most of the time.

But that ... that was real rap, the kind of down in dirt with the rest of us no-holds-barred truth that rap originally was.

And then there was the thumping bass, which I can appreciate. I'm so glad I invested in a set of good speakers. Not sure my upstairs neighbor is though. :-)

60. It looks like they're going to play it on MTV!!!!!! Starting tomorrow!
http://www.gnn.tv/users/user.php?id=2

"If you found your way here, you pretty much know whats been in my head for the past 5 weeks. Em’s lyrics, Dre’s beats and lots of amazing artists’ pixels. The delivery service will be here around 3am to pick up the color corrected tape that is going to MTV. Word is they will feature it on TRL tomorrow and start it in ‘medium’ rotation. That is if they can clean a couple of the references in time for broadcast. Honestly, I thought MTV would take a few days to internally battle over whether or not they should play it or ban it. So, if it plays in its entirety tomorrow we will be pretty pleased around the bunker. And if it does get on, I have a feeling the kids are going to pump it up the TRL ladder. Gotta get back to proc amping this mofo to bring the blacks back out of the darkness. Damn where’s Marshall when we need him."

I cannot believe that I am sitting here with tears in my eyes after watching that! I am almost at a lost for words.

That was perhaps the most powerful thing I've seen this election.

It was my rage that I saw on that video. Eminem captured my rage? I cannot believe I am saying that. Eminem and I have something in common, our rage.

I can't think of anything else to say right now, I am too stunned at my reaction to that video...

that people can be completely different, and still an american.

Eminem shows kids how he grew up and made it just like he shows young adults how to stand up and make it.

Its spiced up and riddled and a little over the edge - but it proves his point and his talents :)

em would stay focused on this type of music. I could do without most of his other crap, yes, crap (only 1 man's opinion), however, this man gets my personal kudos for this unbelievable rap (that's right!, no "C" before the word rap in that sentence!). the group that made the video, very well done! I like this type of rap, hate the stupid bling bling type, which em doesn't do, he's typically making a mockery of gays, other musicians, women, himself, but finally, he has found a resolutely defining message.

God bless him!

87. Why, oh why, didn't this come out sooner?
I am not a fan of rap but I just saw this for the first time and was blown away. However, is it not just a bit late to be energizing the youth, who are going to find out it's way too late to register? From what I've seen, as a resident alien, registering to vote in America is more difficult than it should be. It's almost as if they don't want people to vote.

151. American's Right to Vote
First only white land owners were allowed to vote, then only white men, then Lincoln screwed everything up by freeing the slaves and then congress amended the constitution and gave Black Men the right to vote (though for over a century in "the south" this was as much whimsy as reality) and then as an afterthought they gave Native American men the right to vote. Then at the turn century women got uppity and after allot of noise congress finally acquiesced and amended the constitution giving women the right to vote. And then you got the whole "Jim Crow" and poll tax thing that kept allot of legal voters out of the process. And finally it was decided, though they now can't buy a beer or porn or gamble (in most states) that if 18 year-olds were old enough to be shipped off to asian jungles and die for a lie then they should have the right to vote.

It took almost 200 years for the world's greatest democracy to extend to all of its adult (?) citizenery the most fundemental right of a democracy, which is the ability to "elect" it's representatives in government.

Do you really find it so surprising that "It's almost as if they don't want people to vote".

it being the world's greatest democracy then? Or do you mean greatest as in biggest? I thought that this "great democracy" would want a voter turnout that would impress the rest of the world. If Americans aren't seen to value democracy then how can the govt cite this democratization of the Middle East as such a wonderful thing?

Eminem's anti-Bush anthem
Download "Mosh," the most powerful broadside against the administration since "Fahrenheit 9/11."

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Michelle Goldberg

Oct. 26, 2004 | With his history of homophobia and his long-running beef with MoveOn supporter Moby, Eminem is an even less likely lefty hero than Howard Stern. But the just-released video for his new anti-Bush song "Mosh," makes "Fahrenheit 9/11" look like a GOP campaign spot, and it will almost certainly reach an audience that wouldn't think of shelling out for a documentary.

106. I will not dispute that this message by Eminem is powerful and I...
congratulate him for this piece.

However, lets not forget some of his previous homophobic rap lyrics. The preacher is a bigot, so before you go signing up for the choir, do some fact checking.

"Mmmm, the sounds of summer. Crickets. The ice cream man. Violent, homophobic rap lyrics.

On his latest release, "The Marshall Mathers LP," Eminem proudly raps: "I'll stab you in the head, whether you're a fag or les/ Or a homosex, a hermaph or a trans-a-ves/ Pants or dress/ Hate fags? The answer's yes."

Oh, the hatred."

However, there are a great many posts on this thread hailing him as the hero. Before you make some one a hero, they need to be worthy on all accounts.

Being a bigot is not a hero-like quality in my book.

Not to excuse thoose lyrics, but I believe he tried to make amends in that movie. His character has a friendship with a gay man who works at a factory with him, and he sticks up for the gay character when he's taunted by a homophobic coworker.

245. That movie was not written by Eminem, nor directed.
You also say, "...I believe he tried to make amends..." This says you are not certain.

In fact, his role was as an actor. An actor who played a character who befriended a gay person, fiction, a movie, no personal input beyond reciting learned scripts, nothing more.

167. I don't think he actually hates gays.
Yes, he's definitely rapped some anti-gay, anti-women stuff, etc. but the more I see Eminem and listen to Eminem, the more I realize that's probably not what he thinks at all.

Don't forget him hugging Elton John at the Grammys (I think it was the Grammys) a few years back. When he raps certain things, he's usually expressing his anger o not being serious. He even has a lyric, something along the lines of "If you think I'm always being serious about the threats I make then I'm going to come to your house and kill you."

Personally, I like Eminem, and the more you learn about him, the less he seems like the image you might get from some of his lyrics.

203. Powerfully Commercial
My impression of the guy has been that he does whatever is expedient for a buck. If gay bashing, woman hating, violent lyrics will sell CDs that's what he'll do. This protest song, while helpful to the cause, is none the less more pandering, in my humble opinion. Also, do we need more violence in our discourse? Isn't this Bush's basic foreign policy problem of "Let's kill all those who disagree with us, or stand in the way of our Empire?"

247. Like Slappypan above, you say...
"...the more I realize that's probably not what he thinks..." and "...the less he seems like the image you might get from some of his lyrics."

Both of these statements, along with Slappypan's above, contain words that convey your uncertainty, "probably", "might", "believe" etc. Uncertainty because we do not know. The only thing we do know for certain is that his own written lyrics contain bigoted remarks. Until I hear him denounce those words/lyrics or express an acceptance toward gay folk, his words, he remains a bigot.

155. Come on people...
winning the votes of petulant 13-year-olds isn't going to do us much good. 13-year-olds can't vote. Get a grip, it's freakin' Eminem. The only way he could help us is by openly supporting Bush.

"Follow me/I will lead/you out of the darkness" in my faux gangsta black hood and my hands flyin' all over the place...Jesus, these hip-hop guys are such pathetic posers. The spiritual brothers of Rush Limbaugh every one of them, with their relentless, dorky self-promotion.

I'm confident we are going to win this without the help of those three or four voting-age citizens who will only vote if Eminem makes it look all cool and gangsty.

156. yes, let's be polite liberal adults
Surely we will persuade the people with think-tank white papers and editorials in The Nation and The New York Review of Books rather than with art and popular music. It is much more important for middle-aged white people with graduate degrees to sit around agreeing with each other than to try to communicate with young people or the working poor or people who listen to hip-hop.

Anything but that.

I doubt the "working poor" or "people who listen to hip-hop" need political lessons from Eminem via rap videos. I'll bet they read newspapers and keep up with events more or less like everybody else. But go ahead and suggest I'm the elitist even though you are the one who thinks this silly, self-serving product of Eminem's marketing team is what will really influence the working poor and people who listen to hip-hop. Thank you, Eminem! You've taught the working poor to care about politics! You've led them out of the darkness and to the polls!

We don't need Eminem. There's no reason to be that desperate.

I am a 37 year old, stay at home, suburban mom. That song speaks for me.

All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

207. So...you're saying you weren't going to vote
until you saw Eminem's video and he tapped into some latent reservior of adolescent rage and now you are motivated and you're going to put on your black sweatshirt and pull the hood over your head and go follow Eminem through the rain to the polling booth? Well, I guess that would make you one of the three or four people I said it might influence to vote. So I still think I'm right.

If you like Eminem and think it's cool he's spittin' shit at Bush fine, but I don't think this video matters, that's all I'm saying. It's just corporate exploitation of romanticized adolescent angst. It's silly, and pretending it's not just helps Eminem and the corporations he works for further expand their market share.

216. Corporate exploitation?
The video itself was created and produced by Guerilla News Network...most likely because no corporation would sponsor the money for a video to this song. I'm surprised they allowed a song that is so anti-Bush to be published before the election.

This "corporate exploitation" idea is nonsense.

219. No, what I am saying is that I think eminem speaks to a larger group
than just petulant 13 year olds on this one. He speaks to me with this song, and I am about as far from that demographic as you will get. But he is tapping into a rage that allot of people have right now, that our views are not being represented in politics or in the media. Same as when F9/11 came out and there was a huge stampede to the box office. And I believe that the video will motivate some of the 18-25 year old 'unlikely' voters out there, just like F9/11 did.

You know, it is easy to dis allot of these non-voters as stupid or whatever, but most of the time, no one has ever taken the time to explain to them why voting is important and how it relates to their lives. I have been standing on street corners trying to do just that. But this video explains it so much more eloquently than I ever could and eminem has a huge audience. This video does a very good job of connecting the dots on allot of issues in a way that will be understandable to young people.

227. Why do I keep getting accused of elitism by people
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 04:50 PM by Craig Roberts
who then proceed to suggest certain voters need a rap video to explain the issues at stake?

I think the working poor understand very well what is at stake for them, and they understand the need to vote, and they don't need to follow some laughably self-proclaimed hero as he leads them "out of the darkness" and up to the polling booth. Like all his other songs and videos - and as you've just verified - this isn't about a real expression of working class sentiments, it's about exploiting working-class chic to manufacture an image that the unthinking can buy into.

It isn't the working poor who are unthinking, it is their "betters" who don't understand Eminem is nothing but insipid bourgeois-friendly posturing. He's just annoying and offensive, never truly dangerous. He's just another loser using the Madonna Business Model (TM) to make a quick buck.

Eminem is a misogynistic, homophobic, crass, violence-celebrating punk. Just because he made some silly video bashing Bush doesn't change the fact he's a pollutant.

225. Good job COMPLETELY missing the point, AND misjudging his fans...
I'm 26, and office manager, and I LOVE Em's music. And most people I know that work in this office do as well (including the 33 year old "standard redneck", his words, who drives a pickup truck and has been pretty much apolitical, except for this year). So to hear whining about someone preaching to "petulant 13 year olds" pisses me off. And even if a solid chunk of his fans ARE that young... are they never going to turn 18? He SPEAKS to kids (and adults alike) that have NO ONE ELSE speaking to them, or caring. EVERY bit of help HELPS, and to hear otherwise gets under my skin.

165. A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
From the lyrics it would appear that he's referring to himself, but at that moment, the video is focusing on a picture of W with Poppy Bush. That combined with the later lyrics suggesting that Junior could go fight in the desert himself in order to impress daddy...

It seems to me that Eminem has offered his own impression of Bush's motivations. After watching the recent Frontline special, it seems as plausible as any other analysis I've heard.

And I've got to say it shows a level of subtlety I didn't expect from Mr. Mathers. Shows what I know.

I'm with the majority here. I'm 45 yr old white guy with kids in their 20s. I've never been a fan of wrap (sic) much less eminem. Offensive is the word I'd use to describe most of it but I sent these links to my kids.

That being said, I had chills watching this video. This is powerful stuff and needs to be seen by young people especially.

Let's not forget, this election will be all about turnout!!! This video speaks to key demographics - young people, minorities, and mothers (women) who need to turn out big for Kerry. I say play it early and often.

This is something we had "back in the day" as the kids say. It's an anthem!!!

I believe the jury is still out on whether eminem will mature into the kind of cultural icon Dylan was. He's not there yet but this is a good step in that direction - especially the ending that suggests voting to make a difference. He could still drop the ball in the long run.

Kerry-on our wayward sons.

Dear lurking DU'ers: It's obvious from the Eminem video and from your overjoyed reaction to it, along with the countless DU hate threads about the coming election, that you plan or hope to physically clash with us evil Republicans and FReepers in the near future, possibly even in an attempt to overthrow the government by coup.
While I would strongly discourage any thoughts of anarchy or treason after George W Bush wins convincingly, again, I look forward eagerly to a personal confrontation with each and every one of you at the earliest possible opportunity. It would be my pleasure, and I'm sure I speak for many others, to communicate in a simple and intimate manner my feelings for you and for your way of thinking. My pleasure.

Yeah, okay, in the words of your Dear Leader: Bring it on.

199. Get it on TRL
Get this video onto MTV's Total Request Live by following these directions.

Click on the link below, then once you are at the page scroll to the bottom enter ARTIST: Eminem, SONG: Mosh. Do not try to find Eminem in the list of songs, he has another single out right now, and it's not the one you want to vote for.

208. Why didn't Eminem release this video earlier? I remember he had a song on
a CD a couple of years ago (Eminem Show?) that Bashed Bush good. I can't remember the song, but it had maching guns and part of the lyrics went, "The next thing you know your ass gets drafted......"

The guy hates Bush (good on ya!).

yah you laugh till your muthafuckin' ass gets drafted, while you're at band camp thinkin' the crap can't happen
till you fuck around, get an anthrax napkin, inside a package wrapped in saran wrap wrapping/open the plastic and then you stand back gasping, fuckin' assassins hijackin' Amtracks crashin'
all this terror America demands action, next thing you know you've got Uncle Sam's ass askin'
to join the army or what you'll do for their Navy. You just a baby, gettin' recruited at eighteen
You're on a plane now, eatin' their food and their baked beans. I'm twenty-eight, they're gonna take you 'fore they take me
Crazy insane or insane crazy? When I say Hussein, you say Shady
My views ain't changed, still inhumane, wait, arraigned two days late, the date's today, hang me!

Verse 4

So to the parents of America
I am the derringer aimed at little Erica, to attack her character
The ringleader of this circus of worthless pawns
Sent to lead the march right up to the steps of Congress
And piss on the lawns of the White House and replace it with a Parental Advisory sticker
To spit liquor in the faces of in this democracy of hypocrisy
Fuck you Ms. Cheney! Fuck you Tipper Gore! Fuck you with the freest of speech this divided states of embarassment will allow me to have, Fuck you! I'm just kiddin' America, you know I love you...

lyrics are available here:
http://www.hugelyrics.com/lyrics/134866/Eminem/Mosh

Below, I would spell 'carry'......Kerry!
(snip)
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
(snip)_
(snip)

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

I watched the video over the internet a few minutes and I thought it was a great song and a great video. I was more impressed by the words of the song than the video for the song. I am so happy that he encouraged people to go out to vote and stay at the polls no matter what happens even if it rains. I am happy that he decided to take a leadership role in this election, telling people to follow him. It was a great song and a great video. Eminem did a great job.

243. Eminem
Hi!

I've come here a lot over the past few months, but have never
had the urge to post as I do today.

First I have to say, that song/video is goddam amazing. I
don't cry. I don't cry when people I know die, I don't cry
when I get hurt, either physically or emotionally. To this
day, the only two things I could say ever caused me to produce
tears are Catcher in the Rye, and this video.

Also, I'd like to point out to those who've posted about
regarding Eminem as a woman/gay basher, this video should show
you you've had him pegged wrong. I'm 22 and have been
listening to Eminem since his first album. Right from the
beginning I knew that Eminem was far more intelligent than
anyone would ever give him credit for. As far as I can recall,
EVERY Eminem song is laced with critque of the American
suburban culture. When he sometimes seems to depricate women
obviously, if you apply the context of that song you will
often learn he is not disapproving of women, but instead
pointing out that the "Cancoon party all night, be a
whore, and meet a rich guy" mentality that stations like
MTV promote, are not advisable if you wish to be a happy
woman.

For a great example of Eminem's own feelings on how his words
are misconstrued, please google the lyrics for or listen his
song "Stan".

And now I'll never be back, cause I hate having to enable
cookies!

I'll admit that I don't have much rap amongst a music collection ranging from Andre Segovia to Bob Dylan to 80s hardcore and now to Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie but I think Eminem just did "it." It summed up the past 4 years entirely in a musical perspective without having to try to play the "we're just trying to get out the vote" card with Vote For Change (amazing bands as well). Eminem himself has to hardcore promote this as his October Surprise and stand in front of the White House, fist up in the air.

For the older posters, I wouldn't necessarily trash hip-hop so much. Tom Waits recently had his son, Casey, do turntables and percussion on his latest album Real Gone.

273. My favorite anti-Bush rap MP3.
http://www.guerrillafunk.com/audio/paris/Sonic_Jihad/WhatWouldYouDoLong.mp3

What Would You Do?

I see a message from the government, like every day
I watch it, and listen, and call ‘em all suckas
They warnin’ me about Osama or whatever
Picture me buyin’ this scam -- I said never

You in tune to a Hard Truth Soldier spittin’
I stay committed gives a fuck to die or lose commission
It’s all a part of fightin’ devil state mind control
And all about the battle for your body, mind and soul

And now I’m hopin’ you don’t close ya mind - so they shape ya
Don’t forget they made us slaves, gave us AIDS and raped us
Another Bush season mean another war for profit
All in secret so the public never think to stop it
The illuminati -- triple 6 -- all connected
Stolen votes they control the race and take elections
It’s the Skull and Bones Freemason Kill Committee
See the Dragon gettin’ shittier in every city

What would you do if you
knew all of the things we know?
Would you stand up for truth
Or would you turn away too?

And then what if you saw
All of the things that’s wrong?
Would you stand tall and strong?
Or would you turn and walk away ...

Now ask yourself who’s the one with the most to gain (Bush)
‘Fore 911 motherfuckas couldn’t stand his name (Bush)
Now even niggas wavin’ flags like they lost they mind
Everybody got opinions but don’t even know the time

‘Cause America’s been took - it’s plain to see
The oldest trick in the book is MAKE an enemy
Of phony evil so the government can do it’s dirt
And take away ya freedom lock and load, beat and search

Ain’t nothin’ changed but more colored people locked in prison
These pigs still beat us but it seem we forgettin’
But I remember ‘fore Septmember how these devils do it
Fuck Guliani, ask Diallo how he doin’

We in the streets holla “jail to the thief”
Fuck wavin’ flags -- bring these dragons to they knees
Oil blood money make these killers ride cold
Suspicious suicides people dyin’ never told

It’s all a part of playin’ God so ya think we need ‘em
While Bin Ashcroft take away ya rights to freedom
Bear witness to the sickness of these dictators
Hope you understand this time brother cause it’s major

What would you do if you
knew all of the things we know?
Would you stand up for truth
Or would you turn away too?

And then what if you saw
All of the things that’s wrong?
Would you stand tall and strong?
Or would you turn and walk away ...

So now you askin why my records always come the same
Keep it real, ain’t no fillers, motherfuck a blingin’
Mine eyes seen the gory of the coming of the beast
So every story every word I’m sayin’ “Fuck Peace”

See you could witness the illuminati bodycount
Don’t be surprised these is devils that I’m talkin’ bout
You think a couple thousand lives mean shit to killers?
Nigga I swear to God we the ones - ain’t no villains

Or any other word they think to demonize a country
Ain’t no terror threat unless approval ratings slumpin’
So I’ma sayn it for the record -- we the ones that planned it
Ain’t no other country took a part or had they hand in

Just a way to keep ya scared so you think you need ‘em
Praisin’ Bush while that killer take away ya freedom
How many of us got discovered but ignore the symptoms?
Niggas talkin’ loud but ain’t nobody sayin’ shit’

And with the 4th Amendment gone eyes are on the 1st
That’s why I’m spittin’ cyanide each and every verse
I see the Carlyle group and Harris Bank Accounts
I see ‘em plead the 5th each and every session now

And while Reichstag burns, see the public buy it
I see the profilin’ -- see the media’s compliance
War is good for business, see the vicious make a savior
Hope you understand the time brother cause it’s major

What would you do if you
knew all of the things we know?
Would you stand up for truth
Or would you turn away too?

And then what if you saw
All of the things that’s wrong?
Would you stand tall and strong?
Or would you turn and walk away...

Considering the response this vid has generated I'd say the timing is great for the teens that are allowed to see it (my daughter will have to watch it at a friends since he's not allowed here...no exceptions)

I know a lot of people who are tired of the elections, but this sounds like it will reinspire those who are getting bogged down with all the politic talk. It'll remind them of what's at stake.

P.S. Don't tell me I should see it. I have no tolerance for the guy and I'll take everyone's word for how powerful of a video it is.

Posted October 25, 2004-- A video for Eminem's "Mosh" has begun a rapid circulation in the internet and, as expected, the video is a pointed, visual criticism of president George W. Bush and the present administration.

"Mosh" was directed by Ian Inaba of the Guerrilla News Network and created with a staff of illustrators, animators and special effects artists. Inaba explained how the video came to be.

"The goal was to make a video that inspired young people to vote because they too often disregard it as a powerless exercise," he said of "Mosh." To show them that political decisions do impact their daily lives and that voting is the most powerful act we all have to voice our opinion and effect change. And to educate and reiterate the point that whether or not people want to accept it, there are forces in play that attempt to suppress the youth and minority vote."

In the five-minute video, Eminem and the GNN push the creative license to the fullest. Planes fly over schools and explode in the background, meanwhile Eminem, dressed as President Bush, is reading an upside down elementary school book. But, as the story progresses, it depicts Em inside an apartment with walls of newspaper clippings disapproving of the current administration. However, the critique doesn't end with the president. In "Mosh" a cartoon Lloyd Banks is a victim of profiling, other families fall prey to poverty, and other domestic issues are addressed. In the end, hordes of youth march towards the White House with Eminem leading the fray.
