Print this and take with you to the polls Nov. 2!

You might run into the kind of problem that makes you mad enough to cuss and scream, but after you vent, you’ll still have to deal with the fact that your vote wasn’t counted.

So, what you do?

First and foremost, in each situation, notify a poll monitor.

If you don’t get satisfaction, immediately contact the Protection Election Hotline at 1-866-OURVOTE.

If your name is not on the ballot, have the poll worker check to see if your name is on the central registrar’s list. This election, all poll workers can tap into the computerized data base to find out where your name is. If the poll worker still cannot find your name, then request a “provisional ballot,” on which you can cast your vote. This ballot will be counted later, once the issue is cleared up, but you won’t miss the election.

If you feel intimidated or are harassed, notify poll monitors or legal assistants and law enforcement officials immediately. If possible, record the name(s) of those involved, location, time and details of the incident.

If the electronic voting machines are not working properly, notify the poll monitor, who may provide a paper ballot. Still no satisfaction? Then notify the legal workers, and call the hotline.

If lines are ridiculously long, or there are any other deterrents, be sure to contact the hotline. Election officials say that in some instances, additional machines can be made available.

If the lines are still long and the polling place is scheduled to close, remember: You have a right to vote if you are already in line. Don't leave. Stay there and call the hotline if poll workers try to shut the polls down.
