10/19 ABC Ohio Poll - Kerry 50% Bush 47% LV
Poll: Advantage Kerry in Ohio Race
Economic Issues Give Kerry Advantage in Potentially Crucial State

Oct. 19, 2004— The economy and jobs dominate as the top issue in Ohio, lending fuel to John Kerry's candidacy — and keeping the presidential race very close in this potentially crucial state.

A third of likely voters in Ohio call the economy and jobs the most important issue in their vote, putting it substantially ahead of terrorism, Iraq or health care. The economy stands taller as the top concern in Ohio than nationally — and that helps Kerry. Likely voters who pick it as their top issue favor him over President Bush by 73 percent to 25

In the race overall, 50 percent of Ohio likely voters in this ABC News poll favor Kerry, with 47 percent for Bush — a close race, with the difference between the candidates within the survey's margin of sampling error. It remains 50 percent to 47 percent with Nader in the race; he's currently off the ballot with a court challenge pending.

In another contest of interest, likely voters divide on a proposed amendment to the Ohio state constitution banning gay marriage, with 48 percent in favor, 45 percent opposed. That contest may be pulling a few, but just a few, voters to the polls: Four percent call it the most important contest on the ballot. And preferences in the state's U.S. Senate race show a very large lead for the incumbent Republican, George Voinovich.

Let's go by the poll that was taken on Oct. 3rd that has Bush up by seven points.

3. CNN avoids all of the polls
That show Kerry in the lead in Ohio, and one of the reasons Bush is ahead in their Electoral Vote Polls are that they throw states that are to close to tell to Bush.

7. Yes, and we're going to get it done. -
I plan to canvass the next two weekends and work on Nov. 2 for Kerry.
I am motivated, everyone. We Ohioans have the ability to send B/C to the dung-heap of failed political criminals.

5. Oh my friggin' god.
That's what.. three polls out today showing us up in Ohio?

And another one out showing a 1-pt lead in Florida?

Amazing.

And remember, most major media polls underestimate Dem turnout/support.
And this is before the undecideds break.
And this is before the new voters show-up.

God, this is great!

9. Is God answering my prayers?
I don't advocate the mix of church and state, but yesterday before I cast my ballot in the voting booth, I held-onto the prayer necklace that grandma gave me and prayed probably the most solemn prayer I've given in a long, long time.

Ever since, we've seen three polls today showing Kerry leading in Ohio with at least 2%.

Weird. And I don't pray that often..

10. I'm going to Ohio on Nov 1!
To Clinton County, no less. Despite its name, this is a conservative part of Ohio (in the South, between Cinci and Columbus).

I'm coming out from CA, and I think I've convinced my brother to come from NY and meet me there. Can't wait! Signed up with ACT to help GOTV.

This is going to be intense, and I'm glad I will be right in the middle of it. It's either that or stay in bed all day with the covers over my head, praying for it to go Kerry's way.

17. So hilarious!
I love that he does worse when he visits, although I wonder if that's just their line to avoid the media touting how "Bush has pulled out of Ohio"!

Oh wait. They never report that. They only report that Kerry is pulling out of places. Bush is always turning blue states into swing states (i.e., N.J., California), right?

So ridiculous. I hope Americans really are onto this guy. And the press, too!

20. Fantastic news! Yea!
Ohio's the key to this, and I didn't think it was possible, but looks like we may be in the driver's seat there. They've ha?Yd?YQ?"yment in Ohio and factories and software companies closing down as greedy CEOs outsource jobs to India rather than paying a living salary for people here. Ohioans aren't taking it anymore, it seems. This is big, just hope we can hold it.

21. Why does anyone care about CNN.......
I am not going to worry about the polls until the 30th and 31st.I am frankly very tired of everyone always whining about frickin CNN,so what are they.....gods or something? Can't we just ignore those idiots? Please? Lets just go out and start talking to everyone you see in the next 13 days and get the vote out. Spoke to eight people today between work and canvassing, only one was for *, three were leaning Kerry, Three were Strong Kerry, one undecided. Signs and bumper-stickers count: 44-K 17-*, drove 300 miles.

Wow. LVs always skew in favor of Repubs. Kerry's actual margin must be a lot wider.

32. See if you can write the headline if it showed bush leading by 3%
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 12:15 AM by 0rganism
OK, let's look at the current headline

Poll: Advantage Kerry in Ohio Race
Economic Issues Give Kerry Advantage in Potentially Crucial State

It's accurate. Understated, but accurate. The second line is enough to make half the readers skip the article right off ("economic issues", "potentially crucial"), but we'll let that pass for now. So suppose bush had reversed a modest Kerry lead from earlier in the month, and were now leading by an amount "within the margin of error". What would the headline say?

Poll: Bush, Republicans Routing Kerry, Democrats In Crucial Battleground Upset!
National Security Energizes Grass Roots Ohioans in a Major Swing State
