...on any offensive maneuvers in Iraq, until after the election. Remember? Well, exactly the opposite has happened. There has been full-blown war in and around Fallujah. Were we fed a clever bit of propaganda? Don't believe wha you see, just believe what we tell you?

2. I remember that too
but I've come to believe that an assault on Fallujah is part and parcel of the "October Surprise". I think we're seeing a softening up exercise going on around the city as a prelude to a major military action within the next week...or maybe sooner.

I suspect there will be a bloody battle but victory will be declared in time for the pre-election news cycles....

oh yeah...and they'll throw in Zaqawi's (sp) death as a bonus....

5. No, its confusion and flip flopping and lack of strategy
Assaults create civilian casualites and hard feelings. Negotiations empower the insurgents. Both can fail. So the US just keeps trying each. Attacks, followed by truces and talks, then attacks, then talks.

The US just doesn't know what to do. It doesn't know how to bring about stability, much less a civil society.

But who, who could have ever predicted that we would ever be in a situation like this? Besides every person opposed to the war, the State Department, the War College, and a billion pundits and advisors? Bush's war, Bush's mistake, Bush's fault.

7. They will start a lot more too...
There is no doubt that we will be back to a full blown war in Iraq. People in this country rally around a war, and that will be shrubs hope.

9. Despite a lot of talk, the US does not have the initiative in Iraq
The battles will happen when the Iraqi people want them to.
