Subjects'll be like this:

Newspaper name: candidate

This will serve as the universal endorsement thread. Go.

Keep it simple (no discussions) and we'll have a neat and tidy list.

8. Palm Beach Post - Kerry
Go with Kerry's agenda over misplaced priorities
By Palm Beach Post Endorsement

Sunday, October 17, 2004

There are many reasons to declare George W. Bush a failed president. We frame the election in terms of why people should vote for Sen. John Kerry.

John Kerry would not rush the country into a war that harms the campaign against terrorism, stretches the military dangerously thin and diverts attention from real nuclear threats in Iran and North Korea. Instead, he would refocus attention on Al-Qaeda and try to reclaim the near-worldwide sympathy, goodwill and cooperation that flowed to this country after 9/11 and which President Bush squandered by invading Iraq. As Sen. Kerry has said, the fight against terrorism is about more than being resolute; it's about being smart and making the right choices.

John Kerry would not allow unfair tax cuts and unchecked spending to swell the deficit, threatening the nation's economy and passing on huge IOUs to younger Americans. Unlike President Bush, whose ideas for tax reform would shift the burden from wealthier Americans to working Americans by taxing wages or consumption more, John Kerry would not allow the tax system to punish the middle class. Tax reform that Mr. Bush proposes would reward those who get stock dividends. An Urban Institute study in 2000 showed that 3.8 percent of households get 50 percent of dividends.

snip

John Kerry is not in denial about Iraq or any of the other problems Mr. Bush will have left him. Unless the nation is in denial, Sen. Kerry will win on Nov. 2. Anyone who has failed as badly as Mr. Bush does not deserve another chance.

11. South Florida Sun-Sentinel (Ft. Lauderdale): Kerry
Editorial, October 14, 2004

South Florida Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board
Posted October 17 2004

In the aftermath of Sept. 11, George W. Bush helped to unite the nation as it waged war against al-Qaida. Unfortunately, his obsession with Saddam Hussein then caused him to lead the nation into an ill-conceived war in Iraq.

That conflict has cost more than 1,000 American lives, diverted resources from the fight against al-Qaida, and contributed to a hemorrhaging of red ink at the U.S. Treasury that threatens the economic foundation of the nation. In the process, the Bush administration has managed to squander international good will built up by U.S. presidents since the end of World War II.

President Bush has failed the test of leadership. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board recommends voters on Nov. 2 replace him with John Kerry.

The Massachusetts senator possesses a prodigious intellect capable of grasping the complexities of the serious issues facing the nation and the world. He has surrounded himself with advisers who have equally sharp minds and proven track records, including former U.S. chief delegate to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke and former Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin.

17. Ft. Worth Star-Telegram: "Backing the old George W. Bush"
This one brings to mind the old saw: With friends like this, who needs enemies.

The local booster paper, the FWST endorsed the Bush they thought they had supported in 2000, a political moderate and national uniter.

About a third of the endorsement rehashes Bush's failures: rushing to war unnecessarily, not addressing problems with soc. security, Medicare, immigration and the environment. And it berates Bush for his loyalty to his advisors when it is obvious they have performed poorly. Hey, some endorsement!

Here are the last 4 paragraphs of the endorsement where the editorial board steps through the looking glass:

"If making the tax cuts permanent is to be the centerpiece of Bush's domestic fiscal policy in his second term, he must be equally forceful about reducing spending."

AND PIGS CONTINUE TO INSIST THEY CAN FLY

"Without the pressure to run for office again, Bush should examine those in his Cabinet and his closest advisors to rid himself of ideologues in favor of clear-eyed decision-makers who are free of undue political considerations."

YEAH, THE LEADER OF THE PIGS ALWAYS LISTENS TO ADVICE.

"If he is re-elected, we expect to see and hear a vocal Bush forcefully proposing a clean policy for fiscal restraint coupled with compassion- and using his veto power to enforce it."

DIDN'T PIGS CONTROL CONGRESS, TOO?

"In short, we expect to see the George W. Bush who we sent to Washington in the first place."

MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR CAMERAMAN AT THE READY. A SHOT OF PIGS FLYING MIGHT WIN YOU A PULITZER. OH, YOU HAVE PROBABLY FORGOTTEN WHAT A PULITZER IS...

A big surprise too, considering that the Republican publisher has veto power over all the endorsements.

We recommend

America needs new leadership, and John Kerry can bring it to the White House

This is what America faces this morning:
U.S. troops are under fire and dying in Iraq -- the worst foreign-policy debacle since Vietnam -- in a war that didn't need to be fought.
More Americans are without health care, nearly 45 million, and in poverty, almost 36 million, than ever in the nation's history.
Working-class families are steadily losing ground as decent-paying jobs disappear, while a record federal budget deficit and historic national debt are drowning the country in red ink that will choke future generations.
That's the tip of the iceberg, and all of it has occurred under President George W. Bush.
