1. Nope
I've got a Kerry sign in the front lawn, just like about ten other people on my street. I did keep my car Kerry-free because I drive like an ass.

However, I am somewhat afraid of backlash if I were to come out too publicly in my line of business.

The next time I see someone with a B/C bumper sticker, I'll look sad, shake my head and point to the sticker and say "What kind of creep would vandalize your car like that!?"

This is the first year I've ever put a sign in my yard ever.

I just became a precinct captain in the last 2 months and I've found out that my street is composed of largely Dem swing voters. I thought I'd influence them a little to their own side!! Nobody on my street has a sign except me. (My street is only a block long)

If the Bush cartel remains in power for another 8 to 12 years, I might statrt to get afraid (as more of our freedoms and civil liberties evaporate), but for the moment, here in Macon, GA, I display my signs proudly (and replace them immediately when they're destroyed or stolen).

19. We were, and were afraid we'd be vandalized.
I won't talk politics or advertise it where I work, but my house is a different story.

A couple of weeks ago, about a half-dozen B*/C 04 signs popped up the next block down. Not that I was surprised, mind you -- I knew our precinct was approximately split as far as registrations. Most of our area is, though the Goopers are (as usual) bigger bloviators.

But two weeks ago, the local Dem candidate signs appeared on my block. First, the single guy across the street; then two houses across from each other toward the corner. Finally, the guy who owns the house and corner lot put up a local Dem's sign both on the side where I live and on the other street, facing a secondary artery.

Kerry signs are short here -- the local party decided to save revenue for radio ads (and I'm hearing them, so they meant that), so we had to scramble to get one ourselves. The guy on the corner and the house two down from him put up theirs a week and a half ago; we put ours up last weekend.

As bad as vandalism and sign-stealing has been in this area, so far (knock wood) the ones near me have been standing. One flip-floppin' family a block up went from a K-E to a Bush* sign, which pissed me off -- not so much because they were somehow played/intimidated/frightened into changing their vote, but that they wasted a much-desired Kerry sign for a month before changing their minuscule minds about it that somebody who actually had the guts to vote for Kerry could have been happy to have!

Now, what the consequences of having been for Kerry will be if he loses, I don't know. If he wins, they can say anydamnedthing they want -- I won't care, I survived being a Dem during the Clinton years.

20. I live on Freeper Lane
Out of about 40 houses on my street (in suburban Memphis), 30 or so have BC04 signs. I'm the only one with a Kerry sign. One family that recently moved from California had a Kerry sign, but it disappeared last week (probably stolen). In 2000, I had my Gore sign stolen three times before I gave up, but this time people have left my sign up.

Strangely, several Bush signs have been damaged. Not sure if it was weather or what, but I did see a few big Bush signs spray painted on the major streets in town. That's not cool and it doesn't help the image of the Kerry campaign. If you know people doing this sort of thing, urge them to stop.

21. Damn straight
I live down the street from a rabid Baptist church and a few years ago had a 'murderer' sign placed in my yard after using a woman's clinic that offers abortions to get a pap smear. Not to mention being having been kicked out of a rental for being an 'atheist'. (Quaker doesn't count.)

I'd find, at the minimum, my dogs poisoned if I dared to openly support any Dem.

45. Charleston is one big contradiction
but there are areas of rabidity. Unfortunately, ours is one of them. Out of 30 houses on the street, 18 are owned by the church on the corner. It's a racially integrated area that has some of the worst bigots you can think of living in it.

We were getting ready to get out when my husband's job went away. Far away. Used up all the savings while he looked for another one and now there's no way we can go.

My husband is not a citizen (he's Dutch) and that doesn't make things easy for us. Last time we were in any way political (opposing the annexation of our area into North Charleston) we were denied garbage pickup for 3 weeks and I came out of the house one morning to a cop with his gun drawn on my dogs...who were inside our LOCKED, fenced yard.

Recently I've had problems with the feds (HS type) because a cable installer reported me for having a plastic bag with Arabic writing on it. (Which had contained a gift from a friend in Oman)

It really isn't safe for me to do more than express myself this way. And wish I still had an Amex card for the plane tickets it could buy.

70. Good Lord, China Cat!
And I thought Knoxville, TN was Freeper central.
My ex-husband is Arabic (meaning, of course, that my son is half Arabic, all-American) and I've NEVER been reported by my neighbors for getting mail with Arabic writing (and, obviously, we'd get much more than you!) In fact, my home became "9/11 Central" as neighbors would drop by to get a perspective on the Arabic point of view (I was separated at the time, but they knew I knew the culture intimately).
My next-door neighbors - a fantastic couple - went Bush last time, but they don't have a sign out as yet. Their son has lost his job and is doing odd-jobs for all the neighbors and such and has two children to support. They also know how hard it was for me to find work post-divorce, even with a degree, and how little I make even though I have found a position.
I rather suspect they're either voting Kerry or they're going Libertarian this time around.

23. Hell no!
In fact it is the freepers who are fighting among themselves.
A group calling themselves "Republicans for Kerry" have set up a huge sign on highway outside of a very, very conservative town to public dismay of many. They even went so far as to set up a booth at the recent "Harvest Festival" and drew a large crowd.
I see very few B* signs or stickers when they were plastered everywhere the last election.
Out here in Western Colorado good things are looking possible.

. . . I started a new job last month and I've toned it down a bit. Outside of work I'm very vocal. So's my father. He gets in fights every day with his brother, his neighbors, people at the grocery store, you name it. He writes letters to the editor once or twice a week that usually get published. My mom got in a fight with some guy at her gym. They're a hoot.

These fools come up with the LAMEST excuses for why Dumbya can't do ANYTHING right. Some are even angry at successful people because they have a nagging suspicion of "smart folk" which includes hard working people who make it. So funny seeing a guy get hollered at for working hard - this from the same people who denigrate poor folks who get welfare (even though many of them have at one time or another). If it wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny. And no, I don't offer my opinion in this one place (I do anywhere else) - I say "I just come here to relax - I don't want to get into that". I was asked the other day who I support - i wouldn't say - asked if I support Bush though and I said "no way could I support him" - so I won't deny that I hate Bush if asked.

41. Yes
Of course I live in God-forsaken JOklahoma - the armpit of the Bible belt.

Opted not to do the bumper sticker because I have a new car that I don't want abused any more than necessary just yet. If it was an old clunker I probably wouldn't care so much.

Not doing the bumper sticker was probably a wise choice based on how my Kerry Edwards yard sign has faired. Kicked down twice. Torn up once. Stolen once. All in a period of less than six weeks.

Funny thing is that since I put up signs for all the democratic candidates none of them have been taken or damaged. But I keep a spare Kerry Edwards sign (reclaimed from earlier abuse) stuck in the garage just in case.

The most frightening thing that has happened is that I HAVE been asked questions at career fairs and in job interviews where it was apparent that somebody thought my political views were relevant. Can't help but wonder who's taking notice of my yard sign after that. And in church earlier this summer I actually heard a preacher use his whole sermon to say that we should only vote for candidates who are against abortion, against gay marriage, and for the public display of the ten commandments and keeping the phrase "under God" on our currency. And that was after he had shown two video clips of the shrub. I thought I was going puke. Instead I bought the CD to remind myself of all the reasons I never again intend to darken a church door. Geeeeez, I want out of here soooooo bad......

The only other sign on my street (which only a block long) is the W'04 sign in the yard of the freeper city worker (who seems to come home for a two hour lunch every day).

Or the surrounding countryside. Better known as "The People's Republic of Johnson County," Kerry rules the day. I drove around the country -- rural Iowa, mind you -- today, and I counted 47 K/E signs to 25 Smirky/Snarly signs.

It was a good reminder that Dems live out in the country, and they have sheep and horses and half-underground wagon wheels in their yard -- the whole "Heartland" doesn't belong to the GOP. :)

50. Sometimes, I worry about it during business transactions. For example,
a couple of weeks ago, we met a customer for lunch at a local restaraunt. The customer is a contractor (we are a subcontractor) from a town about 60 miles away. The local restaraunt is staging a "Bush-Kerry contest" - each person is given a token to place in a jar on the way out - either the Bush jar or Kerry jar - or the undecided cup. I was very uncomforatable participating in this in front of my customer. So, I just kept my token in my hand. He didn't even take his.

Other than that, it doesn't bother me. I have my yard sign. I have my bumperstickers and buttons.

But, in business, sometimes it bothers me.

59. I wouldn't feel bad about that....
in fact, I really get ticced off at the business types that try and impress their political values on me. It just hardens my resolve, and makes me look for other people to do business with that will respect my views and not use their business relationship to try and influence me. Busines is business, it's a free market...I can do it with anybody, don't need to deal with jerks that feel you have to belong to a paricular "political club".

It sounds like your lunch\business partner was wise enough to realize where the lines need to be drawn - you should respect him for that, regardless of where he comes down on the political spectrum.

53. NO.
No. But here I live in Montgomery County, MD which a suburban county northa of Washington, DC. This county went 2 to 1 for Gore and probably will support Kerry even more this time around. In this area signs and bumper stciker for Kerry are 12 to 1. WOO HOO!!

54. Use this Push Cheney Out sign if you live in a republican hood
You can easily blend in if you use this for your yard sign:

Push Cheney Out

60. positively not!!
I live in a suburb of NY and nobody, I mean nobody, supports Bush here. We had a mock election in school and it was Kerry by a landslide!
I love being sheltered in a liberal community!!

62. Yes.
I live in Georgia, in northern suburbs (Newt gingrich's old district) and I usually have atleast one of my three children in my minivan at all times. I didn't want any of them to be on the receiving end of any rude gestures from other drivers.

A little off-topic, but one encouraging sign is that I've seen relatively few bush yard signs, bumper stickers, considering the area, and I have seen more than a few k-e (of course, more repubs)

66. No, I'm not afraid here in the Texas Hill Country
Any further west of here, except for El Paso, and I might well be, though. But not here. Stickers, signs, shirts, buttons, hat. I'm a walking, talking, driving campaign ad!

67. Yes
I have my John Kerry sticker stuck to my sun visor IN the car, so I can flip it down for drive time and up when I get to work. I work with some of the biggest Freepers and what really bothers me about it is that they're, for the most part, very smart individuals. They just believe whatever Faux News tells them and don't venture out to other news sources.
I DO, however, still have my Draft Clark sticker and my "Stop Mad Cowboy Disease" bumper stickers on my car. Many of the Freepers at work don't get the "mad cowboy" one (I think they misread it and take it as a humanitarian thing - I am a former Humane Society board member locally) and most of them actually LIKED Clark, so they don't bitch about it.
Now, I would have no problem showing support in my neighborhood since it's about 2/3s for Kerry anyway. It's just at work that I have the problem.

68. No from VA!
I put my Kerry sign up as soon as he won the election -- and I was a little worried. My neighborhood was considered to be Republican, and is full of military officers, lobbyists, etc. As time went on, more signs went up in my neighborhood... I'm really proud of showing my blue!

69. i have to pick and chose. cant put a sign in my yard
and that pisses me off. but i have a Kerry sticker on the car and i can speak to people out and about. too many die hard repugs go past our house as a thruway and my husband owns a business. a lot use him and they would burst to see a sign, though i think they all know i am Calif liberal and they just smile their smirk and shake their heads. if hubby didn't own business, or we weren't known in town, even in the panhandle of Texas i would be bothered. maybe months ago, but after driving around with my Kerry sticker, i have been having a blast. though, we are being ostracized at school, and the boys. i need to get them out, just haven't been able to.
