"IT HAS BEGUN"
TruelyMe noted this in a thread today, but I thought it deserved its own.

People have voted absentee and are doing so today. People will receive their mail-in ballots in the coming days. Early voting begins next week in some states!

I myself dropped off my absentee ballot last week!

We're voting NOW!

1. "Finally one has understood"
Another line from Mortal Kombat, even if that wasn't your intention. :)

5. Uh, not exactly...
;-)

I've never played Mortal Combat, as I'm 46 years old.

I'm strictly a HALO maniac. ;-)

But just think--there are people voting today! And beginning next week, they'll be going to vote early at the polls.

So the voting has officially begun!

26. Yep. The time for campaigning (our time) is over.
Get out the vote for the next couple of days! The election has begun!

2. Oh goodie the October Surprise
I think that the surprise is that a lot of people will have already voted when they march out Osama Bin Laden and pat themselves on the back for getting the job done. I hope Democrats are finally getting with the program and voting absentee. The Republicans have been doing this for years and it has made a huge difference for their side.

7. Gore v. Bush
I hope Democrats are finally getting with the program and voting absentee. The Republicans have been doing this for years and it has made a huge difference for their side.

Did you know this is how Bush beat Gore in Gore's home state of Tennessee? The Republicans got out the vote EARLY and it paid off.

12. That's one of the reasons I posted this thread.
People are still musing to themselves about the media polls, etc...when they should be helping to get out the vote--or voting!

It's too late for musings about what Kerry should or should not do, too late for rumination. It's time to VOTE!

We hand-delivered them to the County Election Board.

8. Yes, we voted
in Washington this week absentee ballot. I was a bit suprised in the chads on the voter cards. We just moved and previously voted where you blackened in the missing part of an arrow. I made sure I had no hanging chads!!

10. Good for you!
I'm so excited that the process has begun. We tend to think of the rush to the polls on Nov. 2, but it doesn't work that way anymore.

People are voting now, and they will be voting nonstop in the weeks to come!

(I'm still going to canvass a bit to GOTV this weekend though.)

21. arrows
I think the filling in the shaft of the arrow between the arrowhead and feathers is the best way. Just need a Sharpy felt pen. Scanning equipment sucks in the ballott sheet and stores them for recount, if needed. Election officials pull tabulation from unit easily. Wish all counties did this. We do it here. (Brewer, ME)

28. Optical Scan Best
I agree. We had optical scan with paper ballot in TX when I lived there. Here in GA we've got new computer/electronic machines. No paper trail. I don't like it.

Anybody noticed that, on average, the solid red states have done a better job of both promoting early voting and improving voting equipment. For example, still no early voting in NY, to my knowledge. Why is this? Anybody have some insight?

30. NY
Was going to tell inlaws to vote early in NY until I saw that. I've heard that ONLY Nevada? has recount ability with these electronic screen computer units. The rest of time it's just like clicking refresh on a calculator - same answer blinks back at you.!?!?

9. Doing mine today
Already cast my vote for Kerry and Barbara Boxer and Barbara Lee. Am struggling with the 16 propositions that are cluttering up my ballot.

It's as if we're on a float trip and we're starting to get sucked around the bend by the current. Some people are still talking about the best way to maneuver the canoe!

23. I have to go out of town, and then out of the country, on the 25th.
But I have time to do a little more canvassing tomorrow. There's not much time left--canvassing next week might involve knocking the doors of people who have already voted!

29. Here in Memphis...
Kerry supporters are out at major intersections cheering and reminding folks to start voting now. My wife and I will have the honor of taking our three young daughters with us as we go to the polls and vote on Monday. Hope they deal with the crowds better than in 2000 where I voted early and still had to wait nearly an hour.
