Hurt Sinclair: All it takes from this new site is TWO SECONDS
This new site works from the boycottsbg.com database. It automatically emails ALL advertisers at once! All you have to do is enter your email address, change the letter (if you want, or leave it as is) and press send.

http://www.grassrootsnation.com/sinclair/

It literally takes seconds and ALL Sinclair advertisers will know how you feel.

Please do this! Over 50 Sinclair advertisers have already pulled out and Sinclair's stock is sinking. It works!

I sat there and typed a very heartfelt message (Step #2), and when I clicked on "Send", I got a delivery error. I tried it twice. WXLV in Winston-Salem, NC.

169. WRONG!
If you check, the second letter is a message to send to your friends, urging them to send a message to advertisers themselves. It doesn't get sent to the Sinclair advertisers (and probably wouldn't make much sense if it did). If you click send on that page without entering any friend's e-mail addresses, it simply "sends" the message to nobody.

12. Which Sinclair advertisers have pulled out?
I fully intend to boycott the ones that are electing to stick with Sinclair. On the other hand, I would want to be supportive of those companies that are taking steps to disassociate themselves from Sinclair. It's important to be able to make that distiction. Is there a listing that identifies, based on actions taken, where these two groups of advertisers stand?

5. That's great
The idea of multiple subject lines is really smart. It means that recipients might at least open the email once for each subject line.

I edited out this sentence from their letter: Think what you will of John Kerry and George Bush, neither "Stolen Honor" nor "Fahrenheit 9/11" amounts to news. F911 is news. Stolen Honor is not!

15. Good point - people should use their own letters instead.

People should use their own letters instead of the one that alleges that Fahrenheit 9/11 is not news.
Fahrenheit 9/11 is factually correct and newsworthy.

Which is interesting and good, but is also about 30 years ago, and therefore not news.

F9/11 *is* news. It's about how the Bush administration conducts itself.

53. I think it's a bad idea to not allow the subject to be changed, too
Sure, it's better than having a single fixed subject, but having only 5 fixed subjects is only slightly better: They can easily set up a filter to eat everything after the first of each. I suppose that was done to prevent "over the top" subject lines, but nobody will pay attention to form e-mails with the same subject. I sent one anyway, but I think it was pretty much a waste of time -- it won't get read.

66. I disagree, here is why.
The Freepers are also using this website and writing their own letters. If the subject line was changeable, they would distort the entire letter and use the website for the opposite purpose.

As it stands now, the advertisers will read the first five or so letters then count the rest. The freeper letters will add to the number of dissenting customers. The freepers will actually help our cause by attempting to use it against us.

124. That doesn't necessarily hurt "the cause"
First, I think we need to have some self-confidence that we are clearly in the right, and that advertisers will recognize, on their own, that what Sinclair is doing is just plain wrong. What they need to understand now is that using slander to influence an election isn't going to be just ignored. I'd never back down from going head-to-head with freepers on this issue, and I don't like even giving the impression that we are afraid of that.

Anyway, having freepers sending in "woohoo Sinclair, yeah Bush" letters just makes it all the more obvious how partisan and divisive the whole thing is. That makes it more obvious that continuing to advertise on Sinclair will be taken as a "political statement," which simply isn't good for business.

131. If they stop reading -- that's good -- look at the RE: lines
the re: lines -- which canNOT be changed -- are negative towards Sinclair. It'd be great, actually, if they stopped reading them and just counting the number of "petitioners" ...no?

137. If they just filter them out, they probably won't even count them
As I said above, I'm not afraid of letting the freepers speak their mind, because I'm 100% convinced they're in the wrong and that we have a better, more persuasive message. I'm just afraid that having the canned subject lines reduces the whole thing to a pointless game, and if the advertisers decide not to play by simply filtering out all the messages coming from that site, the message won't even be counted, much less read. If the freepers then start their own campaign -- they can get the mailing list from that same site -- but use their own subject lines, then we lose the e-mail war.

14. In order to make it a good fiscal decision as well, I added in the text:
"However, you should be reminded that during the 2000 election, the MAJORITY of your advertising market voted contrary to the obvious political leanings of Sinclair Broadcasting. Can you, as a business, survive the possible offense of the majority of your advertising audience to satisfy the few individuals at Sinclair Broadcasting who wish to force the public airwaves to become a partisan mouthpiece?"

Companies ALWAYS have to be reminded of the bottom line....remember we live in a most vociferous capitalistic society.

If you check, the second letter is a message to send to your friends, urging them to send a message to advertisers themselves. It isn't the same text as in the first message. Anyway, it doesn't get sent to the Sinclair advertisers (and probably wouldn't make much sense if it did). I added some stuff, but it probably won't be read.

"Stolen Honor," a so-called "documentary" about John Kerry and his Vietnam War experience, is the perfect example of one-sided broadcasting. This is not NEWS, it is not current, it is merely a distortion of history for political purposes. It amounts to free negative political advertising. It is an atrocity committed against democracy.

57. My letter
My name is John Dean, and I am a 16-year veteran of the Air Force. I am writing you to urge you not to support the Sinclair Broadcasting Group and it's plan to force affiliate stations to air a blatantly political film on the eve of the election.

It is my belief that America is teetering on a very dark abyss - an abyss of fascism. This is not the America that my father served to protect as a paratrooper in Southeast Asia during World War 2, nor my two older brothers during the Viet Nam War. Regardless of political persuasion, we all served our country because we believed it was the right thing to do. So did John Kerry - honorably, fully documented, and to a lesser extent George Bush served for awhile as well, until for some reason he stopped showing up.

I for one believe that right and wrong still matters - that good versus bad is still a fight worth raising my voice to engage in, and if necessary, to die for. In your heart of hearts, you know this to be true as well.

SO I urge you to pull all advertising from Sinclair Broadcasting Group and its affiliates immediately. Show them that this can still be a just America, a fair America, that our kids will be proud of. Do not let them destroy this nation.

They must be stopped. You can help.

Sincerely,

John Dean
An outraged citizen

Quote:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail describing the planned pre-election activities of Sinclair Broadcasting.

We were aware of Sinclair's plans prior to the receipt of your e-mail and had already directed the removal of our advertising.

At Young, Reverman & Mazzei Co., L.P.A., we have been dedicated to the representation and protection of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana personal injury victims and injured workers for over 30 years.

Once again, thank you for expressing your concern.

62. Here's a reply from pepsi
"We have no national advertising buys scheduled with Sinclair
Broadcasting, nor do we plan to advertise on the program in question.
We will also make our bottlers aware of this situation and share these
concerns so they can take them into consideration as they plan their
local marketing efforts. We will follow the resolution of this issue
closely.

So I guess it is safe to drink Pepsi, though I found their reply a bit vague, as if written by a lawyer.

165. We need to monitor the stations for pepsi products. They need...
to realize that just because no "buys" are "scheduled" and they don't advertise during the program (it's commercial free), they're not off the hook.

I'll be madder at them than ever if they're advertising on these networks and sending this out at the same time.

MY LETTER
------------------
Attention: A.G. Lafley
President and CEO
Procter & Gamble Co.
1 Procter & Gamble Plz.
Cincinnati, OH 45202

To: [email protected]

CC: [email protected]'; [email protected]'; [email protected]; [email protected]

Subject: Sinclair Situation -- Silence is not an appropriate response

Dear Mr. Lafley,

In your own very eloquent and wise words you state:
“Procter & Gamble’s reputation is earned by our conduct: what we say and, more important, what we do; the products we make; the services we provide; and the way we act and treat others. As conscientious citizens and employees, we want to do what is right. For P&G, and its global operations, this is the only way to do business.

To conduct our business with integrity in a lawful and responsible manner, we have to be alert to situations that pose questions of right and wrong. We need to have a good understanding of our Core Values and the laws that are pertinent to the work we do and the decisions we make. And, most important, we must use good judgment in deciding what course of action is most appropriate.”

In less than 3 days, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group (a network in which you and your affiliate product companies advertise) will air a overtly calumnious film that maliciously and knowingly distorts the record of presidential candidate John Kerry. The film, “Stolen Honour” will be force-fed to Sinclairs 62 stations and its affiliates under the guise of “news” to avoid any indepth scrutiny by the FCC. Further, the inaction by the FCC in response to the court-ordered repeal of “Personal Attack and Political Editorial Rules “ in 2000, has the public air ways unpoliced and vulnerable to abuse. Thus, say the FCC “we have no legal grounds to halt the Sinclair airing”

If the FCC can no longer or is no longer willing to uphold the principles of fairness, then we (the conscientious viewers and advertisers) are left with a “neighbour watch” type approach to ensure good conduct and integrity over the air waves. To that end, a grass roots boycott of potentially tsunamic proportions is gathering momentum over the internet. Its reach will extend beyond the US borders. Whether you personally are a Bush supporter or a Kerry supporter, I’m sure that you would agree that forcing stations to air such denigrating propaganda on the eve of an election has only one purpose in mind.

The 2004 elections are important not only to Americans but to most non-Americans as well. While my Canadian family is in the top 1% of the income bracket, we never forget how we came to be so fortunate and thus take our citizen responsibilities very seriously – honesty, integrity and good judgment . We have been most loyal patrons of P&G products, not just be the products are great but more importantly because we support your company’s core values.

My question then is this: Will P&G honor its core values or sit on the sidelines in silence complicit with the Sinclair deed?

In the words of Martin Luther King, Junior: “We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.?? Respectfully, Mr. Lafley, if you sit in silence, we will honor our core values and thus discontinue our relationship (stocks and products) with our friend -- P&G.

We do trust that P&G is on alert to this situation that poses a question of right or wrong. We do recognize that the dynamics of this situation are fluid. That said, silence is not an appropriate response in this situation.

With respect,
xxxxxx

70. Done but with my own letter:
As you are an advertiser with Sinclair, I thought I would drop you a note to let you know that I am outraged that SInclair would show a movie which they claim is a documentary, but is made by someone who (Carlton Sherwood) who was on TOm Ridge's staff. Carlton Sherwood, the movie maker, was also instrumental in defending the corrupt actions of Dr Sun Myung Moon, a tax fraud and a man who tells his followers he is Christ.

It should also be noted that Carlton Sherwood was awarded Homeland Security Funds to produce a First Responder website which was never done. He was too busy producing a deceptive movie about John Kerry.

You can easily find these facts on the internet including on legitimate government sites.

I have purchased many products in the past from the list of advertisers to whom I am sending this note. I will modify my purchasing habits, if need be, to avoid purchasing your products, as I believe the lowest blow anyone can commit is to knowingly promote propaganda (especially the sort which appeals to DEEP emotions) just days before an election without adequate time for the truth about that propaganda to be evaluated.

95. Sent my own heartfelt email in the mass mailing
Then went in and sent it, with my own heading and original email TO EVERY EMAIL THAT WAS LISTED

Went into some websites and found emails, a little more time consuming but will try to do everyone on the list by end of day. I'll do the same tomorrow under my husband's email.

A few days ago I called about 15 advertisers, a Pittsburgh station that will be airing this (found out in the process this Fox station has had several nasty controversies surrounding it) and contacted the local Pittsburgh paper.

Again - a list of advertisers compying would be great, I'll spend my money on them and email them thanks.

This will work - as Tug McGraw used to say "Ya gotta believe"

I am married with two kids. My daughter is a teenager and my son is in elementary school. I own my own business. Most likely I am at the top of the lists for your preferred audience.

Be aware if you support Sinclair broadcasting in their choice to air the "Stolen Honor" documentary, my family will no longer purchase your products or visit your establishment regardless if your product is superior, less costly or more easily procured. In essence, I will go out of my way to find alternatives to your company and products. I will also urge the rest of my extended family throughout America and abroad, friends, colleagues, clients and associates to do the same.

172. And they're wrong...
If you check, the second letter is a message to send to your friends, urging them to send a message to advertisers themselves. It isn't the same text as in the first message. Anyway, it doesn't get sent to the Sinclair advertisers (and probably wouldn't make much sense if it did). If you click send on that page without entering any friend's e-mail addresses, it simply "sends" the message to nobody.

84. What I wrote
As a consumer and a television viewer I am aware of the strong link between advertisers and media outlets. I am further aware of my power to communicate my feelings about programming to the people and companies who contribute the financial means that make television stations profitable. That is what I am doing with this e-mail.

I want to let you know that if you chose to use your advertising dollars to support Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. in it's blatantly partisan effort to smear John Kerry by airing the documentary "Stolen Honor", I will no longer use your product or service. I will watch the program to make note of which advertisers support this unethical attempt to influence the presidential election.

After I list those endorsing advertisers, I will contact the advertisers and let them know I will not be using their products or services ever again. I will then post a list on my web site encouraging my hundreds of readers to do the same. I will make a point of telling every one in my large circle of family and friends to do the same.

Sinclair may or may not be acting within the bounds of law, that is still to be determined, but I will act to hold advertisers accountable for the content of the programs they endorse.

Please join people of good conscience in not supporting Sinclair. They have chosen to act in a partisan manner, I hope you will not follow.

Seems to me that comparing Stolen Valor to Farenheit 9/11 and saying that neither one of them is news, is caving in to the RW talking point that wants to marginalize Michael Moore.

F 9/11 *is* fair, balanced, moderate, centrist news. Stolen Valor is vile extreme right wing hate propoganda. I hope whoever put that website up knows the difference, and takes that part out of the letter. Why give the right wing slime any quarter whatsoever? They've declared war on America, and war is what they will get.

130. I looked up Sinclair Broadcast Group
on MSNBC stock finder. Under the news articles, I found this

"Sinclair Warns of Email Spoof
October 15, 2004 11:03:00 AM ET

BALTIMORE, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sinclair Broadcast Group SBGI is notifying the public of an email spoof that attempts to make the recipient believe that they are receiving an email from Sinclair's CEO David Smith. The email is entitled, "Update on Kerry POW Film and FEC Ruling." Recipients should ignore and delete any such correspondence. Sinclair would also urge that any purported communication coming from a Sinclair executive or employee be confirmed as authentic.

Sinclair is in the process of tracking the sender of the email spoof and will determine whether to proceed with civil charges. Anyone found to be creating, forwarding, or posting such false emails may also face civil action."

What have I missed?

135. done! here's mine:
A fascist government uses modern techniques of propaganda and censorship to forcibly suppress political opposition. At first glance, this statement seems alarmist and irrelevant to the current scenario. But if you were to make yourself aware of the content of the film "Stolen Honor," you would see that it has absolutely ZERO news value. It has already been dismissed by many prominent senators and news organizations as vile propaganda. The filth that created such a film is so far removed from the concept of democracy and truth that it hurts me to live in America and put up with this. That is why I am writing you today.

I am fully aware that your corporation prides itself as being non-partisan, as many good corporations do. Sinclair broadcasting, however, has other ideas. I am asking you, as a citizen nearly powerless by myself, to stand up for the American values that allowed us all to build this great nation. You have the power to influence the outcome of this situation, as your company is the lifeblood of Sinclair Broadcasting. If I owned a business and someone was using my money to freely distribute fascist propaganda, I would cut them off right away.

In the end, people will look back at this episode of American history in disbelief. Disbelief that anyone had the gall to believe such actions were even considered in the great Democracy of America. The decision you will make now about Sinclair Broadcasting is a decision not only about the present, but of the stance that your corporation takes in the history books.

Best of wishes,
XXXXXXXXXX

142. Done. I may not like Kerry very much, but SBG is way out of line on this.
Here's my email, thanks for the heads-up on the site...

You know the drill by now, since you've received so many rightfully angry letters about Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Basically, this is the gist of my message: advertise with these Republican-funding marketers of lies and deceit, and you can kiss my money good-bye. I purchase a lot of your products, but if you enable SBG's blatant attempt at an in-kind contribution via a misleading and dishonest "documentary" about John Kerry's service, you will no longer receive a penny of my hard-earned money.

Don't associate your company with liars who want to fool the American public for their own partisan gain. It's very bad for business. However, should you decide to break ranks with those behind this cynical election ploy, you will be rewarded for your courage to say "no, I won't be a tool for liars to manipulate the American people".

Thank you for your time.

144. It's on the way.
Sometimes there is a cause too great that you do not stand idly by and do nothing. Millions of Americans are furious that the election of our lifetime is in the process of being sabotaged.

Sinclair is a corporate monopoly given a broadcasting license to use the free FCC airwaves for the public good, not partisan commercial free political messages of smear. However it is intending to do just that.

The Swift Boat veterans group has been exposed to be closely affiliated with the Republican Bush campaign and thoroughly discredited as dishonest by the most trusted and respected reporters in media. The most recent being Ted Koppel of Nightline only two days ago. Now, they intend to force their stations to hijack prime time network airtime to air the lies to a captive audience. The only purpose being to dissuade them from voting for John Kerry.

You have no idea of the tsunami of anger this has stirred. The power of the internet is organized to voice this anger as never before.

If Sinclair wants to provide a message that our Democrat nominee for president should not be elected, let them
make a movie and show it in movie theaters, just as Michael Moore did who created Farenheit 911. Then let those who wish to see it pay their money and go see it. This is the political process which allows freedom of choice. Commandeering the free airwaves of the public in their homes, for intention of partisan intention of dishonoring a war hero, regardless of content, is election sleaze.

Therefore, any advertiser who advertises on Sinclair stations who does not immediately withdraw all advertising from these stations in protest, and announcement to Sinclair that it also condems this outrage, will be boycotted by millions.

It may be hard to buy products or merchandise we really don't prefer. But my family is prepared to carry the list with us everywhere we go. Instead of looking for the product we like to buy, we will blacklist every single advertiser that does not blacklist Sinclair. And that has chosen to pre-empt fairness for profits. And it will not be only until the election is over, but for years and years.

This is not a matter of intent to deny anyone their right to know anything about a presidential candidate, whatever your preference may be. It is a matter of corporate power being used in a despicable way. You have a choice, and a chance, to stand for what's right.

what we're trying to do.

It diminishes the personal emails we've sent. Why?
Because these emails will appear to be spam.

Spam doesn't help our cause.

If you're pressed for time...write your own heartfelt letter and subject line and go send it to just the top ten advertiser list

I've exchanged emails with the guy operating the thing. He realizes the problem, but said it got hijacked last time by the right.

It's been hijacked again by the right. No doubt they will all choose "Attention Sinclair advertisers" as a subject line, which is the least condemning.

So, we're given the right a tool to express themselves again!

Hello, my name is fearnobush and I work for one of the largest financial information providers in the world. Many of us in the office have expressed great outrage over the Sinclair smear dirt trick they are planning against John Kerry and the Democratic ticket. Many of us are independent voters, but now, loath the GOP for it's down right evil behavior. We would also condemn Mr. Moore if his film was forced out to the public with no say or choice. Buying a movie ticket to see his film is a personal choice. Turning on your TV to see your favorite show preempted by Sinclair anti-Kerry, pro-torture pornography IS NOT A CHOICE!!!

Please pull all your ads and help stop Sinclair now. The choice is yours. It's a simple choice between Democracy or Fascism. Please, do the right thing. Stop Sinclair now.

fearnobush

183. Fahrenheit 9/11 Denied Cable Access
Fahrenheit 9/11 Denied Cable Access
The Associated Press

Saturday 16 October 2004

New York - A cable pay-per-view company has decided not to show a three-hour election eve special with filmmaker Michael Moore that included a showing of his documentary ``Fahrenheit 9/11,'' which is sharply critical of President Bush.

The company, iN DEMAND, said Friday that its decision is due to ``legitimate business and legal concerns.'' A spokesman would not elaborate.

Moore has just released his movie on DVD and was seeking a TV outlet for the film.

Earlier this week, trade publications said Moore was close to a deal with iN DEMAND for ``The Michael Moore Pre-Election Special,'' which also would include interviews with politically active celebrities and admonitions to vote. The Nov. 1 special was to be available for $9.95.

Moore said Friday he signed a contract with the company in early September and is considering legal action. He said he believes iN DEMAND decided not to air the film because of pressure from ``top Republican people.''

``Apparently people have put pressure on them and they've broken a contract,'' Moore told The Associated Press.

``We've informed them of their legal responsibility and we all informed them that every corporate executive that has attempted to prohibit Americans from seeing this film has failed,'' Moore said. ``There's been one struggle or another over this, but we've always come out on top because you can't tell Americans they can't watch this.''

The New York-based iN DEMAND, owned by the Time Warner, Cox and Comcast cable companies, makes pay-per-view programming available in 28 million homes, or about one-quarter of the nation's homes with television.

In a statement, iN DEMAND said any legal action Moore might take against the company would be ``entirely baseless and groundless.''

This spring, Moore did battle with the Walt Disney Co., which refused to release ``Fahrenheit 9/11'' through its Miramax Films because it was too politically partisan for the company's taste.

Moore found other distributors. The movie, which attacks Bush's handling of the war on terrorists and war in Iraq and the Bush family's ties to Saudi royalty, earned more than $100 million at the box office.

In an interview with a Maine television station that aired this week, former President George H.W. Bush called Moore a ``slimeball'' and an expletive.

Also Friday, Moore offered to let Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. air the movie for free. Such a deal would likely get a chilly reception at Sinclair, a broadcaster with a reputation for conservative politics that plans to air a critical documentary about John Kerry's anti-Vietnam War activities on dozens of TV stations two weeks before the election.

Uhh, Sinclair has been falling now for quite some time. This is their 6 month stock recordings. As you can see, they have hit their 7 point line just recently, being one of their lowest points in the past year. Keep it up!

227. My Flash attack ad may be of help --
Called "Our Media is Broken"

I created it when this first started but there are enough resources at the end for people to get some action going in other avenues as well.. it informs folks as to the treatment of our troops by Sinclair and their hypocrisy with the Nightline show honoring the dead..

All the links are clickable, use this as well please and pass it around, the more people that get it the more damage we can do to those bastards!

Turn up your speakers

Hope you like, my pleasure...

229. Sinclair stock down BECAUSE OF PROTESTS
From THE NATION:

Fortunately, there's a major backlash against Sinclair's plans brewing nationwide. Hundreds of thousands of people have petitioned Sinclair to cancel its planned airing of "Stolen Honor." Congressional lawmakers have condemned the broadcast company. Advertisers are pulling ads in local markets. Most damaging, Sinclair's stock recently fell to its lowest level since 1995 as the investment analysts Lehmann Brothers warned of further financial and political damage. So keep the pressure on Sinclair.

236. How about writing the FCC to pull their license?-apparently
this is the time period when stations are up for renewal and complaints can go to the FCC.

If as many people wrote the FCC that Sinclair is NOT serving the public interest, but his own interests, we might be able to get it pulled in spite of Powell Jr. After all other commissioners over-rode
some of Powell's previous decisions.

We need to get to the commissioners who have some common sense.

And thanks for posting this.

239. Sinclair Fires Critic of Plan to Broadcast Anti-Kerry Film
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A43681-2004Oct18.html?referrer=email

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, October 19, 2004; Page C01

The Washington bureau chief of Sinclair Broadcast Group was fired yesterday after accusing the media company of "indefensible" conduct for planning to air a movie attacking Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam record in the coming days.

Jon Leiberman, who also was the lead political reporter for the 62-station television chain, told CNN last night that he was terminated for his criticism, which was quoted in yesterday's Baltimore Sun. He spoke out, he said, because "I feel so strongly that our credibility is at issue here. . . . I feel our company is trying to sway this election."

He told the Sun's David Folkenflik that the program -- which is to include the anti-Kerry film "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" -- is "biased political propaganda, with clear intentions to sway this election. For me, it's not about right or left -- it's about what's right or wrong in news coverage this close to an election."

Can you believe it! Even these A's have some decent people --correct that, HAD -- some decent people on staff!

I really angry with the message he sent me, and still dont how to responed to it.

This is what he wrote.

You might want to know that a New York Times article said today that every TV network and cable channel should run this movie. Looks like they agree with us. Isn't that curious?
