DU'ers don't care about Sinclair's racism?
A while back I posted this breaking news story:

"Nonprofit Group Claims Trailer Park Discriminated Against African-American Applicants

"Frederick Smith owns Todd Village LLC, the defendant listed on the lawsuit. The company address for Todd Village LLC is...the same address for the world headquarters of Sinclair Broadcasting, the company Frederick Smith serves as vice president."

http://www.thewbalchannel.com/news/3805874/detail.html

It got two yawning responses. Hello?! What, "civil rights is a '60's thing?" "None of us lives in a trailer park so who cares?" "We don't really care much about african americans (as long as they turnout for Kerry on election day?)"

I think it matters! I think this demonstrates that the owners of Sinclair don't share the american commitment to equal opportunity and justice for all.

I think we need to object loudly--now.

Am I wrong?

4. The reality is that blacks face this all the time
so this particular incident is not shocking.

When I was young, for reasons I don't quite understand, my mother taught me that racism and sexism were things of the past that didn't happen anymore. When I was a teenager, I asked a black friend of mine if there still was racism. She looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "Hell yeah... but the worst is trying to rent an apartment."

I was shocked. Here I was living in a fantasy world when the reality was so much different.

How to fight it, though? What to do? It's true - I have many of my own battles to fight. I do not allow people to use racist language in my presence. I do not practice racism in my own life. I support affirmative action.

I'm not sure what else you want from me.

12. As a Black Woman, I must agree with you. . .
The hard cold reality of it is that little can be done. Sad to say,
we must actually wait until most of the current generation of white
people between the ages of, say, sixty-five and eighty-five years of
age are deceased before any real change occurs. Some black pundits
have said that as the population of America becomes more bi-racial
and multi-racial (for example, I am married to a white man, and we
have a daughter), the racism problem will disappear as the "they"
becomes an "us."

And, this is not far fetched; according to anthropologists, it will
happen by the year 2050 if current trends do not change. The US will
become a multi-racial society by then because most of the people here
will be of mixed parentage.

Until then, people of good heart can only do what you are doing; practice justice and love righteousness YOURSELF and teach as many as you can to do likewise--and AGITATE, AGITATE, AGITATE for justice for your fellow man.

I think people on DU do care about racism like this, but it just feels like such a helpless thing. Truth is, most people across America really don't care about racism anymore. I don't think.

But the connection to Sinclair, that's different. I emailed it off, maybe others can email it to the media and see if we can't get this back in the news.

9. Enjoy your stay.
And remember that Moore never preempted prime time television in 25% of the market of the nation for a free campaign ad for any candidate.

You might want to think about what you say before you say it.

This site is designed for one purpose only, to have discussion between Democratic-minded folk. If you don't fall into that category, you aren't welcome.

Sorry, but if someone you don't like comes into your house, you don't invite them to stay, you show them the door.

Why do I never get to see the posts from weirdos?

I'd love, for once, to see what the subhuman contingent has to say.

15. Sinclair's VP is a discriminator

It's a start. Doesn't mean he's a racist, but it's likely.

16. What to do?
Forget about the prostitution incident, as you bash Sinclair, hit them with this. This is further evidence of Sinclairs hypocritical posturing in the name of America.

A black friend shared a letter he wrote recently to his family and friends. He said, "Notwithstanding our concerns about the Democtatic Party, we must close ranks! The current administration presents a clear and present danger, not only for us but for all humankind."

Let us close ranks as well and stand up for the future of all americans.
