NY Daily News: Glitter bug at Bush rally
Lowdown by Lloyd Grove

Oops! They did it again.

Four years after landing in hot water for using music by glam rocker and convicted pedophile Gary Glitter at campaign events, President Bush's staffers have restored Glitter's 1972 hit "Rock and Roll, Part 2" to their political playlist.

As the President kissed babies and shook hands at a rally in New Mexico on Monday, staffers blared the rousing tune over loudspeakers - and into living rooms nationwide via cable broadcasts.

What the Bush deejays apparently overlooked is the fact that Glitter - born Paul Gadd - pleaded guilty in 1999 to downloading 4,000 hard-core photographs of children, ranging from 2 to 10 years old, being sexually abused, a crime for which he spent four months in jail.

During the 2000 presidential race, British political pundit Martin Lewis broke the news that the Bush rally repertoire included the sex offender's melodies, and a red-faced campaign spokesman was forced to admit:

"Most of our people don't know who he is, but now his background has been explained to us, you will not hear it again at a Gov. Bush rally."

Yesterday, there was nothing but silence from the Bush camp, the Christian Coalition and the traditional-values group the Family Research Council, which did not respond to Lowdown's detailed requests for comment.
