8. Americans know it, though.
They know which of the two men is more presidential. They know who won.

21. It was more than a gaff, it was a lie
He said he never said that "he didn't think much about OBL", which is of course documented, not least obviously in F911

She probably told you that if you keep making a funny face, it'll stay that way.

Well, Bush has been smirking all his life. The poor boy can't help it.

7. Both sides were probably 1-1-1
If you compare it baseball scores:
#1 Kerry 10-1
#2 Bush 6-5
#3 Tie 3-3

Veep Debate:
Edwards 12-1

Kerry's big win in Debate #1 caused him to surge in the polls. Bush bumped a little bit after the second one. I suspect tonight's debate won't change anything.

9. Kerry bumped in the polls after the second debate, not Bush.
Since movements in the polls are your scorecard, perhaps a revision is in order?

12. Nope, it was after the first
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 10:11 PM by Edwardsgroupie
Prior to the debates, Kerry trailed in most polls by four or five. Most of the following Monday's polls showed a dead heat. After the second debate, Bush gained a point or so, but still a statistical dead heat.
The polls coupled with the overall consensus as well as my own observation leads me to these 'scores'.

20. We seem to see the world in different ways.
Fortunately, this doesn't have to be a he said -- he (?) said thing, since poll data are tracked.

ABC/WP poll (taken Oct 6-9)

Bush 50, Kerry 46

The debate was held on the 8th, so one day of these data were influenced by the debate.

ABC poll (10-12)

Kerry 48%, Bush 48%

I don't see a Bush bounce there.

Gallup (Oct 1-3)

Kerry 49 Bush 49

Gallup (Oct 9-10)

Kerry 50 Bush 48

Again, no Bush bounce.

Rassmussen had slight movement in Bush's favor, but it was well within MOE, and only for a day or so.

Zogby had a short move in Bush's favor, again within MOE, then Kerry took off in the days immediately after the debate, to settle into a tie.

In none of the polls I saw did Bush get any kind of meaningful bounce; in two of them (ABC and Zogby), Kerry did. If you have some other polling data, or a flat earth interpretation of these, I would certainly like to see it.

As for the punditry, I'm not aware of any attempt to collate such opinions. If you are, please post it. Sorry, but your observations alone aren't going to hack it for me, as mine were the exact opposite.

I am aware of public opinion polls, which favored Kerry, including one posted here that had Kerry the winner by quite a bit. I'm aware of no public opinion polls that showed Bush the winner. Again, if you are, please be so kind as to post it.

My quote-- 'Prior to the debates, Kerry trailed in most polls by four or five'.

Your quote-- 'ABC/WP poll (taken Oct 6-9)
Bush 50, Kerry 46´...mostly before the debate

My quote-- 'After the second debate, Bush gained a point or so, but still a statistical dead heat'

Your quote-- 'Rassmussen had slight movement in Bush's favor, but it was well within MOE'
Zogby had a short move in Bush's favor, again within MOE'

You wanted a poll about the second debate?

So what is it again you were griping about?

24. Hilarious.
You do realize that the poll you posted showing Bush won was from the Gore - Bush debates in 2000.????????? Did you know that?

I can see you've really looked at the results from this debate closely.

The idiot rules against personal attacks here are soooooooooooo inconvenient, because some people need to be attacked -- and quite viciously -- for a combination of rank stupidity and gross dishonesty that would do Bush himself proud.

call it a draw or something.

good lord tunderin' jeebus.

Kerry is Better every time he is allowed to speak uninterruped. He is awesome. He is genuine. and throw in that Edwards as a team, and hey, you have to be INSANE not to vote for them - I mean the 99.9% that don't make a gazillion from Bush's policies.

11. Kerry closed the deal with the American people
"You're hired!"

Bush did better than in debate 2, but he still lost. Kerry won post-debate polls. Undecideds moved strongly toward Kerry. (Most impressive was CBS poll that showed percent saying he has clear stands on the issues going from 29% to 60%.) AOL online poll, as usual, was biased towards Bush, but people who said they made up their minds as a result of tonight's debate were much more for Kerry.

Kerry talking into the camera tonight while Bush looked mostly at Bob Scheiffer kind of sums it up for me. Kerry cemented his relationship with America tonight. Bush was just there as the outgoing president. Nice that he seems to be taking it well. Maybe he doesn't realize what happened.
