1. I've already seen clips on some news discussion programs
I think it was MSNBC. I really don't want to see the final three weeks of this election with the media giving free exposure to this movie the way they did the first 2 swift boat ads. Haven't they learned how they are complicit in these smears? The issue should not be the content of the move - he said, she said - but whether it is illegal for Sinclair to force it's stations to play this completely slanted commercial-free propaganda film a week before the most important election in my lifetime. The news media really has to be addressed after this election.

2. I agree
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 11:33 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
but shouldn't someone from the Kerry campaign SAY THIS on a news station? The purpose of this move was to forward a rumor? BTW, have any Kerry spokespeople acknowledged that Carlton Sherwood's company was awarded an HLS contract that he never delivered on? Have any of them pointed out that he was awareded this from Tom Ridge and has close ties to him? I created a thread about this.....don't know if you saw it.

BIG TIES to the Bush admin...this is NOT an independent 527:

3. Kills the myth of liberal media
Since Sinclair reaches 25% of American households. We should be pushing that along with the fact that these are our air waves that they are licensed to use, not private cable tv. Blatant fascism with no apologies, unbelievable.

4. whether its aired or not
It certanly will generate PR for anti-Kerry forces,

I do agree with that. But it is worse if it airs.

5. I thought the same thing...
The "shock value" of the Swift Boat Liars has faded and so resurrecting their ads for a 24x7 cable news cycle would have been transparent propaganda. But NOW, the Sinclair story creates brand new shock values.

6. Their Endgame is More Deregulation
Sinclair needs a White House & Congress that will pass the lastest round of broadcast deregulation or face some serious financial consequences.

Over the past several years, companies like Sinclair have anticipated they would be able to buy extra stations in the markets they are currently in (radio has had this exemption since the early 90's) and set up "Limited Marketing Agreements" (LMAs) with existing owners that allowed them to take over these stations in everything but the name on the license.

Last spring, Michael Powell tried to ramrod this legislation through the FCC and was stopped by the Congress, then then Powell's decision was overturned by a federal court. Without the passage of this new round of dereg, Sinclair has to sell these stations, losing millions in the process as they overpaid for these properties and will be forced, along with other large corporations such as Tribune, Fox, NBC and others who also "doubled-up"...this could depress their license values that would destroy the company's net worth.

I know I sound like I'm Mars, but I'd suggest you look at this company closer and then beyond Nov. 2 to see what's happening at Sinclair.

8. And if the Democrats didn't stir up a lot of crap about this...
...people would be saying, "Look, they're quiet, the allegations must be true!" In other words, a repeat of what happened in August.
