Will Bush's change of persona in second debate backfire on him ?
Like they said it did with Al Gore? Remember? "They" said Al Gore was too aggressive and didn't come across very well in his first debate, so Gore changed his persona in the second debate to accomodate for his purported "deficiencies" in second debate. Is Bush so stupid that he will fall into the same trap as his opponent in 2000? I can imagine that this will be what the "mainstream" media will be reporting in the morning. The "un-mainstream" media can only report it first. :)

1. No, it shouldn't hurt him
any more than those multiple personality changes harmed Sybil.

3. Personally I'm hoping for a total meltdown.
I hope Bush goes into a religious fit and starts talking in tongues, flopping and twitching all the way. I'm setting the VCR just in case. :toast:

4. I wondered the same thing
We're spoon-fed so much of this "Bush is comfortable in his own skin" crap and the reality may very well be that his different displays of personality and demeanor over the course of three debates may be far more extreme than Al Gore's allegedly schizophrenic performances.
Of course, the pundits won't notice it, or they certainly won't demean Bush for it, but it will be interesting to see them try and explain it away....

5. He's been ghosting Al Gore's 2K physical debate tactics pretty closely...
.. quite ironic.

8. His handlers cannot change the inherent immaturity
of this man in one weeks time. They may be great PR people, but you cannot change the fact that bush is just plain old arrogent.

17. Bingo.
It's just not possible for him to change his nature. Even more sophisticated men than him can't do it well. Hell, this idiot can't even READ, fer chrissakes.

11. Yes
Remember, Bush was unable to form coherent statements in the first debate, and that was without the extra effort of managing his persona.

I think those bruises he gets are from trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. He'll be bloodied before this is over.

12. If Such A Thing Occurs, Sir
It damned well ought to. Three different debates, three different Bushes, would be an excellent point to demean the reptile with.

There is some question in my mind, though, whether the wretch is enough of a study to alter his behavior in any degree: that requires a good deal of self-discipline and self-awareness, both traits this reptile noteably lacks.

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

16. Correct, Magistrate
He has neither the innate ability nor the desire to be what he is not - a functioning human being with the full spectrum of emotions that come with it.

Watching him try and be "kinder gentler" George would be like watching The Beaver trying to convince his parents he really didn't ditch dancing school. The sincerity of the argument is undercut by the fact the The Beav is standing there with dirt on his suit, and no amount of change of persona is going to make it any cleaner.

13. he is not capable of controlling himself
if he were capable of it, he would have done better last week, and he would in general be less embarrassing than he is.

This is why he avoids unscripted appearances like the plague.

If he does attempt to appear normal, I think it will just come off as comical, like a monkey wearing a business suit.

Skinner should post that on the front page as the "quote of the day".

20. I think (hope) it's beyond his control. It's not about changing his
persona, I think it's about being alone without a net. He couldn't have been more prepared than he was for the first debate. Tonight he has the added pressure of actually being behind. Unless he's had electro-shock therapy today, I don't see how he can be any different than he was last Thursday.

You see him on the campaign trail and he's manic. It's as if he's trying to spew out as much of what he's memorized as possible in as short a time as possible.
