Bilderberg Announces 2008 Conference
Source: businesswire.com

CHANTILLY, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 56th Bilderberg Meeting will be held in Chantilly, Virginia, USA 5 – 8 June 2008. The Conference will deal mainly with a nuclear free world, cyber terrorism, Africa, Russia, finance, protectionism, US-EU relations, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Islam and Iran. Approximately 140 participants will attend, of whom about two-thirds come from Europe and the balance from North America. About one-third is from government and politics, and two-thirds are from finance, industry, labor, education and communications. The meeting is private in order to encourage frank and open discussion.

Bilderberg takes its name from the hotel in Holland, where the first meeting took place in May 1954. That pioneering meeting grew out of the concern expressed by leading citizens on both sides of the Atlantic that Western Europe and North America were not working together as closely as they should on common problems of critical importance. It was felt that regular, off-the-record discussions would help create a better understanding of the complex forces and major trends affecting Western nations in the difficult post-war period. The Cold War has now ended. But in practically all respects, there are more, not fewer, common problems - from trade to jobs, from monetary policy to investment, from ecological challenges to the task of promoting international security. It is hard to think of any major issue in either Europe or North America whose unilateral solution would not have repercussions for the other. Thus the concept of a European-American forum has not been overtaken by time. The dialogue between these two regions is still - even increasingly - critical.

What is unique about Bilderberg as a forum, is the broad cross-section of leading citizens that are assembled for nearly three days of informal and off-the-record discussion about topics of current concern especially in the fields of foreign affairs and the international economy; the strong feeling among participants that in view of the differing attitudes and experiences of the Western nations, there remains a clear need to further develop an understanding in which these concerns can be accommodated; the privacy of the meetings, which has no purpose other than to allow participants to speak their minds openly and freely. In short, Bilderberg is a small, flexible, informal and off-the-record international forum in which different viewpoints can be expressed and mutual understanding enhanced.

Bilderberg's only activity is its annual Conference. At the meetings, no resolutions are proposed, no votes taken, and no policy statements issued. Since 1954, fifty-five conferences have been held. The names of the participants are made available to the press. Participants are chosen for their experience, their knowledge, and their standing; all participants attend Bilderberg in a private and not an official capacity.

It just might provide some enlightenment that things do not operate in our country and in this world like we think they do.

But then again, it's all just conspiracy nuttery, isn't it. I'm really surprised these days that posts like this don't instantly end up in the Dungeon.

I find this story kind of funny and ironic actually, considering that, 15 years ago, everyone claimed that Bilderberg was just a myth and did not exist.

4. My guess - Obama AND Hillary will 'slip in' to the meeting (if they haven't already tonight).
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 02:16 AM by Dover
Which is probably why the meeting is in Virginia this year. AND it may be one reason why Hillary has held onto her delegates and stalled till June...planning to plead her case to the upper echelons this week.

I await the reports from the usual Bilderberg hounds who follow this event and try to get pictures, attendence lists, etc.

From the article on Obama/Clinton purported meeting tonight:

...Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama met tonight and had a productive discussion about the important work that needs to be done to succeed in November," a joint statement from the two sides said.

CNN's Candy Crowley confirmed that the two met to discuss plans for "bringing the campaigns together in unity for the party."

Earlier, reporters on Obama's press plane learned that the presumed Democratic nominee for president was not aboard when it departed Virginia, where he had been campaigning. Aides said staff members "scheduled him some meetings" in Washington.

The meeting originally was believed to be at Clinton's D.C. home, but sources later said the two met elsewhere in Washington.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/05/clinton.obama.wr...

And I wonder where McCain and some of the other prominent Repubs are tonight and this week...like Romney and others? So convenient to have the meeting so accessible to the D.C. crowd.

Jimmy Carter could have been sent to jail for meeting with Hamas. Charles Rangel could have be prosecuted for meeting with Castro. Pelosi could have gone to jail for meeting with the Syrian government.

That law has never been enforced, as its constitutionality is dubious.

22. Yeap, how to make a few final quick bucks raping the biosphere before we go extinct.
Some "civilization" we have going...

I honestly think if some kind of advanced physics yielded a "free-energy" device (and it probably has), these are the types who'd kill off the inventors and cover-up the technology - just to keep making their fast money by burning up the planet as usual.

I find it impossible to believe that energy technology has remained essentially unchanged from where it was 100+ years ago, while everything else has advanced exponentially.

21. Jim Johnson (assigned to select Obama's VP), McCain and others all Friends of Bilderberg

All one big happy elite family:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

American Friends of Bilderberg

"The U.S. group is directed by Henry Kissinger, David Rockefeller, Paul Arthur Allaire and Richard Charles Albert Holbrooke.

"Since 1953, the Bilderberg group has convened government, business, academic and journalistic representatives from the U.S., Canada and Europe with the express purpose of exploring the future of the North Atlantic community. The international steering committee includes Conrad Black, publisher of newspapers throughout Canada, the U.S. and the London Telegraph and Jerusalem Post, Vernon Eulion Jordan, Jr., George J. Mitchell, Kissinger and Rockefeller.

"On the agenda for the November <4-5, 1999> meeting is a panel discussion of the U.S. presidential elections and an exploration of the national security requirements for the 21st century. Among those involved in the discussion of the latter subject will be former U.S. Sens. Gary Hart and Warren Bruce Rudman, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, journalist Leslie H. Gelb and Secretary of Defense William Sebastian Cohen. Samuel R. Berger, National Security Advisor. Remarks to the Bilderberg Steering Committee, November 4, 1999: "Strengthening the Bipartisan Center: An Internationalist Agenda for America." ... or see Speech.
One of the leading researchers on the American right, Chip Berlet of Political Research Associates, argues that the perpetuation of the myth that groups such as Biliderberg are all-powerful is a political distraction. "Why are people recycling a right-wing anti-communist conspiracy theory? People need to be less credulous and gullible. Not everyone who has an anti-elitist framework is our ally," Berlet wrote in exasperation on one occasion. <2>

"The www.bilderberg.org site is a prime example of right-wing populist conspiracism. It's owner is worried that we are approaching the Biblical "End Times" and thinks the Bilderberger group might be part of the plot by Satan to build a one world government. This material is a mixture of fact, speculation, and apocalyptic demonization," he wrote.

"The Bilderberger conspiracy theory diverts us from a systematic analysis of how wealthy elites control the economy and the political scene. Any structural approach can teach people to see how pointless these individualized conspiracy theories really are. The structural analysis can be Marxist, power structure research such as G. William Domhoff and Holly Sklar, Critical Race Theory, any of several feminist theories, Queer theory. ANY structural critique will steer folks away from dead end conspiracism," he wrote.

27. Has anyone ever cross-referenced "The Family" & Bilderberg?
There has to be some overlap, just because of the nature of the beasts.

28. They operate under our noses yet the many don't want to
face it. We are no longer a democracy with power over our own future. The elite few pillage and kill us for their own self interest. The present and once powerful won't give it up.

The media is part of these secret groups. You wonder why they are silent about it? No American should be part of any groups who decides our future behind closed doors. It violates the Logan Act. Ah...but we are lawless aren't we? The Fourth Estate is not the Fourth Front against democracy.

No candidate will protest it but join them.

37. I'm guessing Hillary's plea at Bilderberg didn't go over as she'd hoped.
I feel pretty sure that's why she waited until June for the final decision.
She fought hard for it.

So who will Bilderberg group choose as Obama's running mate?

41.  Sebelius, Kathleen, Governor of Kansas
will be in attendence. Unlike some here, I hope Obama does NOT ask her to be his vp.

42. Do they really decide who Obama's VP will be???
I did notice that Bill Moyers is a member, which I found comforting.

Just exactly how much power do they wield?

48. Just a couple of questions
Why is this in the 911 forum? This is a meeting, and there was a press release about this meeting? What does this have to do with conspiracies?

Why doesn't one single mainstream media source report on this meeting, notwithstanding the "press release"?
