Anyone here have experience with FOIA?
Specifically I would LOVE to see, and for the world to see the pictures taken by Sivan Kurzberg and his little merry band of "movers"

""One image showed a hand flicking a lighter in front of the devastated buildings, like a fan at a pop concert. The driver of the van then told the arresting officers: “We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.”"

1. I have.

I know that there are specific exclusions for concerns like the information might compromise national security or defense and confidentiality of private information for individuals. The FOIA requests that I reviewed, winning proposals to do contract work for various agencies, took weeks to arrive and were heavily redacted under the exemption for proprietary business information clause of FOIA.

I think chances are slim that the FBI would release those photos any time soon.

2. Pretty much echoes my experience...
Be prepared to wait a long time, and to not get everything you ask for.

3. I thought that if you just kept at it
over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, the low level clerk who has to open each and every one would eventually just give up and approve the request....or am I just being hopelessly naive?

5. Overly optimistic, not naive.
Someone could screw up and release info under FOIA. In most agencies it's not so slipshod that an employee wouldn't recognize the significance of 9/11 photos, especially if they were filed away under several layers of authorization for access.

7. Yes, to view my FBI file
which was surprisingly thick. But then again I'm a life long activist who has engaged in more than his share of civil disobedience that resulted in arrest. So I guess I cannot be too shocked.

Go to your local Federal Building and ask for the form packet regarding FOIA. If they are reasonably nice people they will even walk you through it. I had to wait a few months before I got my request, but finally got it with lots of black lines run through the documents. Maybe about half of it was blacked out. It was not real useful.

8. i have and it was beyond fucked.
When i was in the AF, I was beyond sexually harrassed by one of my commanders, a male Captain. I turned him in after he showed up at my dorm in the middle of the night. I had 4 of 5 of my claims substantiated by witnesses, like my roomie who was sleeping when he came in.

So, because this was so crazy, an enlisted person with multiple substantiated claims of sexual harrassment, it went to a board that reviews officers.

O of 5 were found to be true. My lawyer applied for a FOIA because I wanted answers as to how the fuck they came up with verdict, but nope.

I was denied a FOIA about ME. I could have went further with it but they sucked all the life out of me, this was in 2001.
