Ministers okay, in principle, army operation in Lebanon
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/529430.html

<snip>

"The political-security cabinet, meeting Wednesday for the first time with its new Labor party members, approved in principle a military operation in Lebanon.

The decision was made in response to three incidents in recent weeks, including one in which Hezbollah detonated explosive devices in the Har Dov region, killing an Israel Defense Force officer."

<snip>

"Cabinet members were presented with possible targets for an operation, and it was decided that the inner cabinet - comprised of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy PM Ehud Olmert, Vice Premier Shimon Peres, Mofaz, and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom - will be authorized to order an operation."

<snip>

"To date, Israel's responses have been limited to artillery and aerial attacks on Hezbollah headquarters and targets in southern Lebanon. The IDF recently warned the Syrian and Lebanese governments that if they do not restrain Hezbollah, Israel would respond against them."

1. bring on the end times -- the fundies are on their knees
praying to their god to hurry up and bring on the rapture.

More death, dying and hatred -- just what the fundies are hoping for.

2. I dunno.
Imagine the opposite: Israel tells Lebanon that it doesn't matter how many rockets or explosions happen in the territory that UN has decreed to be non-Lebanese, or what provocations Hizbullah commits. The Israeli army, under no circumstances, will launch any kind of serious retaliation.

This would lead to an era of unbridled goodwill and kindness on the Lebanese/Israel border?

My kid, is still fairly alingual at age 12.5 months. We tried it my wife's way, just saying 'no' without any hand slap, and all he did was giggle at us ... and continue shredding whatever he was shredding.

Then I did it my way. He knows that if he is doing something forbidden, hears 'no', and continues, that he will get his hand slapped. 'No' is now sufficient to spare our library.

When Lebanon realizes that the pain from having Hizbullah as a private militia controlling a relatively large portion of its territory is greater than forcing Hizbullah to give up control, it may take action.
