Suha Arafat rejects $2 million offer from Palestinian Authority...
Suha Arafat has rejected a $2 million financial settlement from Palestinian figures acting on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, according to French sources, who are becoming increasingly impatient with the wife of the deeply comatose Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat.

The settlement was aimed at persuading Suha Arafat to allow completion of the tests that would finally determine the chairman's death. Contacts between Suha Arafat and the Palestinian financiers began as soon as it became clear that Arafat would have to be flown to France for emergency medical treatment.

The French have been exasperated by Suha Arafat's refusal, permissible under French law, to allow others access to her husband's room in the Percy Military Hospital near Paris.

...

French officials who have been following Yasser Arafat's treatment were astonished to discover that Suha Arafat's constant companion and financial adviser was none other than Pierre Rizk, who headed the intelligence service of the Phalanga during the Lebanese civil war and was in close personal
contact with the guerrilla group responsible for the massacre at the Sabra and Shatilla refugee camp in 1982.

Rizk has been spotted in or near Percy Hospital in recent days. Since Rizk holds power of attorney for Suha Arafat, French and Palestinian officials have been in constant contact with him over Suha Arafat's financial demands, which she says are designed to ensure the financial future of her and her daughter.
The outcome of these contacts is still not clear.

6. i disagree
drdon. its not her money to keep. it isnt yassers either. by all rights that entire amount (or whatever it turns out to be) should be taken from her. she has been living off of stolen money. money that should have gone to help the palestinian people.

how much less anger would have their been among the palestinians if they were treated right by the PA? hamas would have far less prestige among the palestinians because their 'charities' wouldnt have been needed.

arafat screwed everyone over in the ME with his theft. the money, all of it should be taken away from him and his heirs

7. Details of tense meeting between Suha, PA leaders revealed
http://www.maarivintl.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=article&articleID=11633

NRG Maariv: Leaders warned her that if she does not sign papers to divide Arafat’s fortune, “Palestinians will never give (her) peace and quiet."

<snip>

"Although the tense relationship between Suha Arafat, wife of the late Palestinian leader, and PA leaders is a well-known fact, new details that have reached NRG Maariv reveal just how volatile the situation really was.

A delegation of Palestinian leaders, including Abu Mazen, Abu Ala, Nabil Shaath and Rawhi Fath, arrived in Paris on Wednesday to visit their dying leader."

<snip>

"Suha told the PA leaders that she was in need of financial security that would allow her to continue living in the same level she has been used to. “We will allow you to live in the same level”, one of the senior leaders told her, “But you must sign an agreement and reveal all of your husband’s bank accounts and investments, and enable the transfer of the funds that belong to the PA. Do not rob this money from the Palestinian people”.

At some point, the leaders even warned her that if she would refuse to sign the papers, “The Palestinian people all over the world will never give you peace and quiet”. She then conferred with her lawyers and family members, after which she returned to the room and signed the papers. As first revealed by NRG Maariv, she received a considerable portion of Arafat’s fortune.
