Palestinian Authority National Security advisor Jibril Rajoub over the weekend launched a scathing attack on Mohammed Dahlan, calling him a traitor and an Israeli collaborator.
The unprecedented attack came following reports that Dahlan, the former PA Security Minister, was holding secret talks with Israel and the US about security arrangements in the Gaza Strip after the Israeli withdrawal from the area. The reports have enraged many PA officials, who accuse Dahlan of conspiring with Israel and the US against the PA leadership.
Dahlan has denied the reports, but that has not satisfied his critics in the PA, who continue to talk about a US-Israeli plot to turn him into the de facto ruler of the Gaza Strip. Some have gone as far as comparing Dahlan to Ahmed Chalabi, the leader of the Iraq National Council, who helped the Americans topple Saddam Hussein.
In an interview with the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Rajoub was asked about the dispute between him and Dahlan. "I don't want to go into this matter," Rajoub told the newspaper. "And it's not important that I give any answers about Dahlan. I don't care about him at all because he is a collaborator
and everyone knows this."
