Report: authorities looking into possible tax fraud by Sharon family

"Israeli and American tax authorities are looking into suspicions that the Sharon family committed various tax-related offenses estimated at millions of shekels, a Channel 2 news program reported Monday evening.

Among the suspicions looked into are that the Sharon family created false records and evaded taxes during Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's campaign for the Likud primaries in 1999.

Suspicions are also being checked according to which Sharon paid contractors by using straw companies and false records. Tax authorities confirmed that the investigation was being carried out. Police refused to comment."
