Paul urges complete end to foreign aid, including Israel; Bachmann says no cuts to US ally
<snip>

"Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul says he would cut all foreign aid, including to U.S. ally Israel.

The Texas congressman on Tuesday said U.S. aid to Israel “teaches them to be dependent” and reduces their sovereignty. He also says the Middle East nation should be free to conduct its foreign policy without worrying how the United States will react and perhaps punish it with fewer dollars.

Rival Michele Bachmann says Israel “is our greatest ally” and spending to the country shouldn’t be cut. The Minnesota congresswoman says she would rather see “nations that we have liberated” such as Iraq and Libya pay back the United States for money it spent there."

1. Bachmann wants to give the store to Israel, but she'd deny ordinary
Americans health care. What a tool.

6. GOP candidates rebuff aid cut to Israel
<snip>

"Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain pushed back against a proposal by Ron Paul to cut funding to Israel.

Paul, a Texas congressman, during the GOP debate Tuesday in Las Vegas repeated his proposal to cut foreign aid, including the $3 billion Israel receives annually in defense assistance."

<snip>

"Cain said, "If we clarify who our friends are, clarify who our enemies are, and stop giving money to our enemies, then we ought to continue to give money to our friends, like Israel."

The debate was sponsored by CNN and the Western Republican Leadership Conference.

A Las Vegas focus group of likely GOP voters conducted on the eve of the debate by The Israel Project found unanimous support for continuing aid levels to Israel."

7. Israel currently has a budget surplus, whereas the US is $400 billion in the red each year...
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 09:50 PM by shaayecanaan
it might be different if the US actually had $3 billion to give each year, but they don't. Just like everything else it gets added to the credit card. The fact is that fiscally Israel is in far greater shape than the United States.

If they don't do something soon I imagine that the US will be asking Israel for $3 billion each year, and not the other way around.

And from this past week:

Bank of Israel Sees 2011 Budget Deficit at Close to 3% of GDP

The Bank of Israel said today that based on fiscal developments in the first eight months of this year its forecast for the 2011 budget deficit stands at close to 3 percent of the gross domestic product, which is within the budget framework.

9. True. They did have a surplus until the downturn in 2008...
Still, Israel's deficit will be trimmed to 2% of GDP in 2012. By contrast, the 2012 US budget deficit will be an astonishing 11% of GDP.

By any measure, Israel is in far better fiscal shape than the United States, and in far less need of money.
