Poll: No Jewish Problem for Obama in Florida?

Public Policy Polling has Barack Obama doing quite well with the chosen people in Florida.

Although it's a small sample he leads Perry by an 82-2 margin and Romney by a 78-11 spread with them. His overall approval with Jewish voters is 76/20 and specifically on the issue of Israel he's at 61/31 with Jews.

It's a small sample indeed: Only 476 "Florida voters" overall, of whom 5 percent identified themselves as Jewish. Is it significant? Possibly, because the same polling company went into NY-9 before Republican Bob Turner won there. In that poll, 36 percent of voters were Jewish, and only 26 percent of them had a favorable opinion of Obama. Among Jewish voters, Perry led Obama by 4 points; Romney led him by 14. Here's a little evidence, at long last, for the Democrats' maybe-it's-not-so-bad excuse for NY-9: The theory that the orthodox Jews and recent immigrants in that district were more right-wing than Jewish voters in other parts of the country.

1. DNC chair: Obama will win Jewish vote in 2012
(CNN) - Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, predicted Thursday President Barack Obama would win the Jewish vote and her home state of Florida in the 2012 election.

2. But the GOP work at carving out a small percentage of the vote. And they carve
away from the dems the votes of people who don't have id, a small %, and on and on. It adds up on election day.

5. The Jewish vote isn't the main impact of the I/P conflict on American politics.
There aren't that many American Jews, and while their political influence is somewhat more than proportional to that, it's still not vast. Moreover, most of them are sufficiently firmly left-wing on other issues that they'll vote Democractic almost no matter what.

The reason Israel has so much influence over the USA is that right-wing Christians - by far the most numerous and powerful demographic in the US - overwhelmingly support Israel and oppose the Palestinians.

Referring to the pro-Israel lobby as the Jewish lobby isn't just arguably bigotted, it's also grossly inaccurate - the latter is only a tiny subset of the former, and not entirely a subset of it at that.

6. In Florida often the 'Jewish vote' decides the presidential election . nt
