Palestinian Protest Groups Organize Broader Marches On Israeli Borders For Sunday
JERUSALEM Activists are trying to mobilize Palestinians for a new march on Israels borders, seeking to replicate the massive demonstrations last month that converged on Israel from Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank.

The new effort is planned for Sunday and is largely being organized through social media, which activists have enlisted to coordinate efforts among Palestinians scattered across multiple frontiers. Fourteen people were killed and scores were wounded May 15 when Israeli troops opened fire on marchers as they approached borders, surging across the frontier in the Israeli-held Golan Heights.

Many Palestinians see the coordinated marches as offering a potent demonstration of the effectiveness of unarmed protests, raising hopes that popular action could bring change in the Arab-Israeli conflict, as it is bringing change elsewhere in the upheavals sweeping the Middle East.

The mobilization of the Palestinian diaspora has clearly boosted a sense of unity. But it has also pushed the conflict with Israel back to its intractable core, highlighting calls for the return of Palestinian refugees to their former homes a demand Israel views as an existential threat.

Don't you love murderous plans for massacre masquerading as peaceful protest? I know I do.

What did Egypt proclaim? "A million martyrs!" for the Palestinians. They weren't totally clear where that million dead would come from.

On edit: it is truly cynical of me to think that the Egyptians who excluded the Palestinians from their Arab spring revolt because they weren't Egyptians are now actively encouraging them as an "Oh, look at the cat!" diversion such as my sister used to make whenever our parents were quarreling. Egypt's young revolutionaries, Egypt's entrenched military, Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, and Egypt's Coptic Christians have some difficult problems to solve, and shouting "Oh, look at the Jews!" is no more likely to solve them than it did for my family and my now-divorced parents.

3. Thanks for the laugh.
Your comment is so overwrought as to be comical.
Which of you was Egyptian again? Your sister? And you were?
A Palestinian?
Goodness aquart, didn't know your family life was a lesson in foreign affairs.
But chin up my friend, it will all be over soon enough.
Israeli citizens will wake up and see that their government is a racist
regime bent on destroying a race of people, Israel will see that the Palestinians fuck more and have more babies thus overcoming the racism of Israel just by sheer numbers.
See? Soon enough my friend, soon enough.
Now excuse me, I have to finish poking holes in these condoms pound for the Gaza Strip...

7. Al Awda will not be televised
OK, I'm waiting for all the people who kept saying "when the Palestinians adopt non-violence they will achieve their goals" to chime in here.

My worry is the Israeli government will attempt to be sufficiently violent against demonstrators that they will give up their newfound non-violence. Here's hoping not.
