Hamas breaks up peaceful protest in Gaza
Gaza City - Security forces of the Islamist Hamas movement in Gaza dispersed a peaceful protest of Palestinian youths demanding political freedoms and end to the current West Bank-Gaza rift.

Several dozens young Palestinians gathered at the Unknown Soldier's Monument in Gaza City, holding banners and chanting slogans.

'The people want to end the split. No to repression of freedoms and political detentions,' said one of the banners.

Witnesses said that members of Hamas' security forces stormed the rally, claiming the protesters had no permit, yelling and threatening to arrest them unless they evacuated the place.

1. I am shocked...I gotta sit down...
Unbelievable that this beloved Hamas would do such a thing to these people. Who would have thought that they were capable of an action like that in a million years? All they want is their land back...that's all...

:sarcasm: just in case...

9. Nobody here actually SUPPORTS Hamas, you know.
Recognizing that that group has to be included in negotiations because it won an election and that it's impossible to destroy it militarily is NOT the same thing as supporting it.

Get it straight.

2. With all these protests going on I really hope Hamas gets its ass handed to it...
I'm not very optimistic though.

3. Yelling and threatening them? Wusses.
The IDF would of used rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas.

4. Deflect and redirect
That seems to be the approach for some when any criticism of Hamas is raised.

10. nice statement however in this case
I am for unity as are a good deal of the Palestinian people because the only possibility of peacefully removing Hamas from it's current power would be via Democratic election or through Democracy, which of course always carries risks, the alternatives almost certainly involve bloodshed or the current status quo which weaken the Palestinian immeasurably, but it would seem for some here those are preferable
