Helen Thomas's apology and a transcript of the interchange, not just partial quote...
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/06/05/201...
"I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heartfelt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon," she wrote.

The daughter of Lebanese immigrants who has covered the administrations of 10 Presidents in a career spanning nearly 60 years made her controversial comments at a White House Jewish Heritage Celebration on May 27.

Since partial quotes of what she said have been posted, here is more:
"Any comments on Israel?"

HT "Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.
Remember, these people are occupied and it's their land. It's not Germany, not Poland."

"so where should they go?"

HT "Home. Poland. Germany. America. And everywhere else."

1. Notice that there isn't any video of the rabbi approaching her and opening the conversation
It is just the highly edited short snippet with what you have quoted.

Gotcha!

4. The usual players have rushed to denounce her

(Ari Fleischer, Lannie Davis the supposed Dem :eyes:) but now even her co-author, Craig Crawford has jumped on the denunciation, "I'll never work with her again," bandwagon.

6. I think Crawford got the "big head" or decided he need to
ingratiate himself to those on the other side of the spectrum... He flamed out with a statement to MSNBC president Phil Griffin to the effect:

"Phil, Just wanted to give you the heads up that my situation with MSNBC has become so unrewarding for me that I've decided to move on. -- Craig," was the text of the email Crawford said he sent Griffin three months before his contract expired.

In the comments section of his post, Crawford elaborated:

I simply could not any longer endure being a cartoon player for lefty games, just gotta move on to higher ground even if there's no oxygen

I have never and never will forgive Chris for calling me a racist after the West Virginia primary (the last time I will ever go on air with him). Probably should have resigned then and there, but better late than never.

13. So you would support the destruction of Israel and the forced migation...
of mostly native-born people to other countries?

7. I don't usually watch rec/unrec, but funny how this gets an unrec.
Unrec for full quote? Unrec because you don't like me? Unrec because HT apologized? Unrec because I dare post the apology and give-take in full?

9. there seems to be no rhyme/reason as to why some rec/unrec
I always thought posts should be recommended that one feels are important enough for others to see--not whether or not you like the topic or the subject of that topic.

I'm getting the same on my post re: Elton John's official statement. While I make no case either way for how people should view his statement, I do think--given all the posts on his performing for the Limbaugh wedding-- that giving others the chance to see what he has to say about it is reasonable. But, the unrecs keep coming. Go figure...

8. When John Bolton said:
"The Secretariat building in New York has 38 stories. If it lost ten stories, it wouldnt make a bit of difference." ,

did any conservative flamethrowers demand HIS resignation? See: http://www.democracynow.org/2005/3/31/john_bolton_in_hi...

If Helen Thomas is not entitled to a "Mulligan" on this, no one should ever get one.

10. They Ambushed a 89 Year old Lady
I find it grotesque that they would ambush a 89 year old Lady with a gotcha video.
I mean if a 89 year old can't be a curmudgeon and say what they think in America, what have we become.

12. I wish they would move on.
She said a bad thing, she has admitted it and apologized. It amazes me how some people want to characterize decades of work by a moment or two of poor statements.

There are certainly more dire issues in the world right now than what HT said. Millions of people are still out of work for crying out loud!!
