Israelis react with fury to British boycott call

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/israelis-react-with-fury-to-british-boycott-call-1636842.html

Israeli scientists and officials reacted angrily yesterday to calls by more than 400 British academics for the Science Museum to cancel educational workshops planned to promote Israeli science tomorrow.

The cancellation call and claims that Israeli universities are "complicit" in the occupation of Palestinian territories and this year's "disastrous" offensive in Gaza, reported in The Independent yesterday, were condemned as "absurd" by the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Its spokesman, Yigal Palmor, said: "These calls cannot but be motivated by extreme blindness and silly ideology. This of course does not promote the good causes which the boycotters are presumed to promote – not peace, understanding, nor compromise."

The British academics, among them 40 professors, include many of those behind the eventually unsuccessful campaign to impose a full-scale boycott of Israeli academics. The "educational seminars" – in Manchester yesterday and at the Science Museum in London tomorrow – are being run by the UK Zionist Federation.

'furious' seems to be the middle name of Israel leaders

2. This is a duplicate thread; but in any case it's not a 'British boycott call'
It's a boycott call by a small and unpresentative minority of British academics.

4. You might think that the apartheid SA boycott was "by a small and unrepresentative minority".
After all, Nelson Mandela was still on the US terrorist list into the 21st C. It isn't like the anti-apartheid movement had much help from the various western establishments. It took a lot of work before the pro-apartheid doublespeak could no longer be sustained, even from the bully pulpit of the White House. A lot of blood spilled. A person would have to be entirely lacking a memory, to forget how pro-apartheid speakers across the world pointed fingers at "black on black" violence in SA, and so on, in a concerted attempt to portray the non-white population as inferior, a worthy target for systemic repression.

But then, Israelis don't like when SA authorities who lived and struggled through those years liken the plight of the Palestinian population to the plight of the non-white SA population under apartheid.

3. What arrogance - hold a massacre and then downplay it with these words?
"These calls cannot but be motivated by extreme blindness and silly ideology. This of course does not promote the good causes which the boycotters are presumed to promote – not peace, understanding, nor compromise."

Silly ideology. Imagine that. That is an A class put-down of concerned people.

I don't know about any organized 'anti-Zionist' British scholars group that is implied here, but I have a strong feeling that scholars in favor of taking a position of protest against Israel for actions taken by Israel against Palestinians were within their rights and are getting the typical royal 'A' propaganda offensive hit for their efforts. I recognize the smearing.

It seems that Israel can dish out the destruction, but can't take criticism or anti-positions against their destruction/death. They are piling it on to avoid the truth. Weasel works. Where's the compromise?
