Israel: Rights group says settlement construction accelerated in 2008
Jerusalem, 28 Jan. (AKI) - An Israeli rights group says illegal Jewish settlement construction in the Palestinian Territories increased over the previous year and predicts the end of a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians.

Rights group Peace Now claims that 1,257 new structures were built in settlements during 2008, compared to 800 in 2007, signalling a 57 percent increase on the previous year.

Outposts - which are not recognised by the Israeli government - also doubled in size, from 261 in 2008 compared to 98 in 2007.

Peace Now says in his report : "In 2008, the Labour-Kadima coalition government continued to endorse and implement the policy of construction throughout the territories, both East and West of the separation barrier."

2. Maybe the U.S. can bomb Israeli settlements just like they do Muslim homes
in Iraq and Afghanistan. That would sure send a message to the area.

3. Where is the money coming from to build these illegal settlements?
One guess. Isn't it a violation of U.S. law to finance illegal activities abroad?

Gee, seems we have some leverage over the settlers, after all.

4. The settlers, supposedly are usually new immigrants from Eastern Europe
Usually poorer and thrilled at the idea of affordable modern housing.

All at the cost of risking their lives and breaking an agreement openly.
