"We're standing here right next to an M825A1,
which is the U.S. designation for their
white phosphorus shell."
"Manufactured in the U.S. and sold to Israel."
"The missile melted my children."
"My daughter in law melted in front of me."
Dr. Nafiz Abu Shabaan, "in some cases,

Dear D.U.,
This is primarily about U.S. policy
in Israel/Palistinian Affairs.

1. Try to include more of the actual article
You can quote up to 4 paragraphs and "bold" the quotes you want to emphasize.

Good article. Thanks for posting.

4. Shame on us
For selling weapons like we do. We should just get out of the ME and let Israel take on everyone out there. I wish people would question our relationship with Israel more. Like having people in our government who have dual citizenship to Israel. That should stop. Especially when it involves National Security.

5. Our government knows damned well that Israel
is using those white phosphorus weapons illegally. But then again, so do we in Iraq and Afghanistan.

x(

We need a World Court with serious Teeth. Only then will shit like this stop happening. A lot of government and military officials from both the US and Israel need to be on the docket in that world court.

15. Illegal usage is still pretty much in doubt. Using it in populated area is not
Which appears to be legal under the current LOW.

6. I have emailed my representative, my senators, and even the White House
F'ing lot of difference it makes. Imagine the outcry IF Palestinians had used white phosphorus on Israelis - If THEY had killed well over a 1000 Israeli's while suffering 10 or fewer casualites....... Like there's ANY justice here AT ALL Ms Bigmack

7. Could be, only un-bought BBC World News considers this policy to be news worthy..?
Noting the long term use of the
"Made In the United States of America",
M825A1 White Phosphorus bomb freely used against
heavily populated Palestinian civilian areas
by the Israeli government....

Obvious to any thinking person,
this form of warfare is endorsed by the U.S. government.

Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls.

8. Shame on everyone involved
the use and supply of these weapons.

I heard an interview with Marc Garlasco, last night on NPR he had some very interesting things to say about this and have been trying to find an audio copy or at least a transcript

10. Not just phosphorus also DIME bombs
They sound nice and friendly don't they? bit like a chocolate bar ...

Dense Inert Metal/Explosive uses powdered tungsten nickle alloys to limit the blast and shrapnel damage radii. Dime bombs have shells of carbon fibre and the "micro shrapnel" dust can cause immediate amputations, gross internal damage to limbs that then have to be amputated and untreatable internal injuries to the torso or head. The best bit though is for those who survive; usually those who would be within the blast radius of a conventional bomb. These poor souls will have the dust embedded in them, undetectable and irremovable, because heavy metal tungsten alloys are very carcinogenic with confirmed links to rhabdomyosarcoma - a type of bone cancer

The - wonders - of - modern - weapon - technology :sarcasm:

13. What DIME? Nothing to support that being deployed
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 08:42 PM by HardcoreProgressive
WP is clearly deployed with many nations. DIME has never been declared operational by anyone. Not the US, not Israel. Its not clear it has even gone into production anywhere. Defense trade pubs, including Aviation Leak have nothing along those lines. It may have been but there is nothing other than inference at this point.

The seminal source for DIME claims in Gaza is Mads Gilbert, a Norwegian doc who was in Gaza early on. There is no direct physical evidence at this point.

Global Security has about the best article out there on DIME, markedly better than Wikipedia

16. Independent also quotes Fosse of the Norwegian team
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/tun...

Erik Fosse, a Norwegian doctor who worked in Gaza's hospitals during the conflict, said that Israel was using so-called Dime (dense inert metal explosive) bombs designed to produce an intense explosion in a small space. The bombs are packed with tungsten powder, which has the effect of shrapnel but often dissolves in human tissue, making it difficult to discover the cause of injuries.

Dr Fosse said he had seen a number of patients with extensive injuries to their lower bodies. "It was as if they had stepped on a mine, but there was no shrapnel in the wounds," he said. "Some had lost their legs. It looked as though they had been sliced off. I have been to war zones for 30 years, but I have never seen such injuries before." However, the injuries matched photographs and descriptions in medical literature of the effects of Dime bombs.

"All the patients I saw had been hit by bombs fired from unmanned drones," said Dr Fosse, head of the Norwegian Aid Committee. "The bomb hit the ground near them and exploded." His colleague, Mads Gilbert, accused Israel of using the territory as a testing ground for a new, "extremely nasty" type of explosive. "This is a new generation of small explosive that detonates with extreme power and dissipates its power within a range of five to 10 metres," he said.

17. He was part of the team Mads Gilbert lead
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 10:00 AM by HardcoreProgressive
It was early in the war and he was giving interviews. Credibility questions were raised later about a video he released and he has disappeared from the M$M

Right now there is no direct proof of DIME, and given the lack of defense press on it, I doubt it exists.

11. I'd be alarmed too, if phosphorus melted flesh.
Must be some of that new-fangled blue phosphorus.

After all, white (or "yellow"), red, black or purple phosphorus wouldn't do that.
