150 Rally at Islamic Center of Baton Rouge, Louisiana

--Some 150 people rallied Tuesday evening at the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge to remember the more than 360 Gazans killed during four days of Israeli airstrikes on the territory.

Emad Nofal, chairman of the center’s board of directors, led the evening’s candlelit ceremony.

He called on Israel to halt its airstrikes and allow humanitarian aid through to the 1.5 million people who live in Gaza.

Nofal, who said he was born in Gaza, said his three brothers, three sisters and 75-year-old mother have been coping with food and fuel shortages that the airstrikes have only exacerbated.

Nofal said his brother, who works as a nurse in a Gaza hospital, told him they do not have the medical supplies to care for the injured.

Nofal urged attendees to call their elected officials at the local and national levels and ask them to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza and to urge Israel to stop its military campaign.
