This is not a joke (and this is not a week for jokes). It is a lesson in psychology. I was reminded of it when I read Ehud Olmert`s statement that more than anything else he was furious about the outburst of joy in Gaza after the attack in Jerusalem, in which eight yeshiva students were killed.

Before that, last weekend, the Israeli army killed 120 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, half of them civilians, among them dozens of children. That was not 'kill a Turk and rest.' That was 'kill a hundred Turks and rest.' But Olmert does not understand."

1. It's true

In Israel, when people die due to the IP conflict,

-nobody dances in the streets (I guess the "Holocaust" was cancelled),
-nobody fires machine guns in the air (wonder how many Gazans died or were injured from bullets which, you know, do come down eventually),
-nobody passes out candy to kids (hey, I thought they were out of food),
-and nobody drives around the city honking horns in hours of celebration (I also thought they were out of gas).

2. As with all twisted logic referring to the conflict...

Wrong resistance to evil is worse than the original evil..

Wrong reaction to revenge is worse than the act being revenged.

It's insane.

3. It is the wrong resistance

history has proven that, because resistance has only made the Palestinians lives more miserable.

The "original evil" is 60 years old now. I understand that the Palestinians are still pissed off about it, but their militants' resistance (and those who support it, which seems to be a good percentage of people) is not helping their circumstances.

I don't know why they don;t see that. It IS the wrong resistance, because what it has wrought is intense misery. Is this resistance worth more than the misery of the people? Apparently, but it is a dumb choice.

5. The occupation is 40 years. Have you ever set foot in the WB or Gaza?

I'd love to know the source of your knowledge about what life is like under occupation.

But I think if my community was under occupation - and it was a defensive occupation that was the result of my people's aggression against the occupying power before there was an occupation - I would encourage my people to stop doing the things that make the occupation necessary. i.e. I'd encourage my people to stop attacking the citizens of the occupying power.

That's what the citizens of Germany and Japan did after WWII - and now they are two of the world's strongest democracies with powerful economies and high standards of living. The West loves rehabilitated enemies much more than bitter losers. What's not to like about that?
