JERUSALEM (AFP)--The head of Israel's domestic intelligence agency said Sunday that "massive" amounts of sophisticated weaponry had been brought into Gaza during the protracted breach of its border with Egypt.

"Over the past days, massive amounts of weapons were moved into Gaza," a senior Israeli official quoted Yuval Diskin, the head of the Shin Beth internal security agency, as telling the weekly cabinet meeting.

"As far as we know, these were weapons of high quality, including long-range rockets, anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles and other rocket-manufacturing materials that are usually much harder to bring into Gaza," he said.

Gaza militants blew open the border between the Hamas-run territory and Egypt on Jan. 23 amid a punishing Israeli blockade, with Egyptian and Islamist forces resealing the frontier on Sunday.

1. Shin Bet: Militants slipped advanced arms into Gaza

Shin Bet security services chief Yuval Diskin told government ministers on Sunday that large quantities of advanced weapons have been smuggled into the Gaza Strip since the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip was breached 12 days ago.

Diskin listed long-range rockets, anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles and materials used for rocket production as some of the arms brought into the coastal territory.

Diskin also said that terror organizations had strategically relocted dozens of militants and that the Shin Bet has located 30 points where it is possible to penetrate the border between Sinai and the Negev. He said intelligence shows that 20 of those points are in use by terrorists. Israeli security has been reinforced along the border with Egypt for fear of terrorist infiltration.

During the weekly cabinet meeting, Defense Minister Ehud Barak also called for the immediate construction of a fence along Israel's border with Egypt.

isn't like this announcement wasn't on docket from about 5 minutes after the border was blown, is it true though? Israel wouldn't have any reason to "extrapolate" would they?
Maybe so maybe no, time will tell.
